IMG_1378.JPG Hello all. I have always wanted an Omega watch, but could never see it happening. I recently purchased this Seamaster Cosmic, caliber 565. The back of the case is marked, top to bottom: the Omega symbol, SEAMASTER, the sea horse logo, WATERPROOF, and 166026-TOOL 107. It is signed on the crystal, crown, movement, and case inside, however, is it a real Omega? If so, anything you can tell me about it would be greatly appreciated. Is it a 1967? Has it been redialed? Is it a Frankenwatch? Unfortunately, I could only load the one picture. It runs like a top, and has been keeping perfect time. I normally wear vintage Seiko watches, so I'm out of my comfort zone here!

    Welcome

Watch looks ok to me - dial looks right, and not redialed. These need a special tool to open the watch ( as you noted), and it opens up by the front - ie the special tool removed the crystal, then you have to remove the crown and stem, then you can take out the movement.

Please leave this to a professional though, and only then if they have the tool to do so.

Cal 565 inside is a great movement, with quickset date

    Enjoy

I had a strap that was smaller, then the lug by maybe 1mm? Mark B is right, it falls out easily, in the end, I needed to build up the strap side with glue to make up the difference.

Well, you can buy 19 mm straps these days. Dont know about an 18 mm falling out of a 19 mm lug width ( and cant think why that should do that anyway) but i’ve heard many guys talk about shaving 20 mm straps down to fit a 19 mm lug width, but have never tried this myself

It falls out because there is space for the band to move, and as it catches the “ledge of the spring bar, it brings the spring release down, and a little riggle and the spring bar detached from the hole in the lug.

When you have a fully fitted band, there is no room for the band to move back and forth. So it can’t catch the ledge of the spring bar and hence is stable. A larger band in essence can fit into a smaller lug, as the leather in the band can bend to fit.

That's a NFW. I love C-cases, and I've always had a thing for the mid- to late-60's Cosmics with crosshair dials.

There are still some very good condition cosmics out there on the bay. I was actually quite surprised at the condition of this one. Need to find a right strap for it. This thin black one is too dressy for everyday wear.

The crystal is also incorrect. They didn't come with cyclops eye as far as I know.

The crystal that is used in this case is also used in other cases, and it came in versions with the magnifier. Both for the date, and the day/date. The crystal listed for the Cosmic case specifically does not include the magnifier.
