My Seamaster Chronometer is going to Omega for a full service mainly because the
movement is not running to spec: when I bought the watch many moons ago the vendor's observation was that "it could do with a service" so fair does that time is now.

The black dial has a spotty cast to it which you've got to work quite hard to see fully and these photos do no more than give a taste.

I don't think there s anything nicely "tropic" about the dial and though my default setting is preserving originality, I think the dial detracts from the watch: am I wrong?

That’s not a co-axial movement in that one…

Looks like water damage on the dial. New dials are available so easily replaced.

No, of course it isn't coaxial and here's the proof! I've edited my original post.
The dial is the issue and I really wanted to gauge reactions to replacing a spotty old dial with a shiny new one.

Its your watch, do what you want with it.

At the end of the day, even if the internet says its cool, if you don't like it, you won't want to wear it, and then whats the point?

Personally I am not a fan of patina or "tropical" or "chocolate" dials, I can appreciate that other people like them, but for my watches I try to find examples without patina or and discoloration.

We’re not talking an original vintage dial here. It’s a modern dial and presumably the current service replacement is identical of very similar. I’d have it changed

This looks like a ref. 25945200, so if that is the case new dials are available and look exactly like the originals, so no reason not to replace it if you are not happy with the look. New dial is about $330 US.

The movement definitely needs attention - not sure if it's rust or maybe WD40 but the discolouration is concerning, so this may need some parts...
