OMEGA Seamaster Chrono stops unless I wave flabby arm

Hi

Newbie here.

I have the enclosed (see picture). Now attached - to quick on the clickedy click.

It keeps stopping, then I dance around like a lunatic (or just keep waving my flabby arm) and it starts again. Then stops. I tried manually rewinding (I am hoping from front to back, i.e. clockwise is right). Nothing.

I wear it 24/7.

Can I do something or is it the repairman time?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Anna,
Welcome to the forum, how long have you had it and worn it 24/7?
It is said that mechanical watches need a service every 5 to 8 years. The oils that lubricate the various parts of the movement seize up with time.
I don’t know much about modern Omegas but other people here may recommend whether it’s best to send it to Omega, where a service may cost around 600 euros / Swiss francs. In various parts of the world this community can also recommend good independent watchmakers with Omega parts accounts and licenses.
It’s very nice watch you’ve got and it’s no wonder you wear it all the time.
Best regards

Hi Syrte

Thank you for the welcome.

It has been worn 24/7 since about 2009. Serviced (not omega directly) in September 2020.

I love it and will have it repaired if necessary, even though it's so expensive.

I am in Denmark, do everything costs an arm and a leg.

In your photo the crown is unscrewed (probably because you have just tried winding it?).

Does it still die with the crown screwed in fully?

If not, off to the watchmaker.

The answer depends on your relationship with the people who did the service. It’s unfortunate the watch is malfunctioning only 4 years later.

Maybe you could bring it in and they could take a look to see if it’s something obvious that will be cheap and easy to repair.

if they’re nice they should recognize something’s amiss but their warranty no longer applies and they might say you may have misused the watch accidentally or not.

If they ask you to do a full service again, or quote several hundred euros for a repair, I would give it to someone else.
Either an Omega authorized dealer or you can ship the watches to licenced Omega watchmakers in the UK, several of our Scandinavian members go to Mitka/ Watchguy.uk or Simon Freese who all have Omega parts accounts as far as I recall.

but you’d have to make contact with them first to figure out customs declarations since Brexit has reinstated border controls.

JiminOz asks a good question. I’d also want to know: have you tried winding it manually—a good 50 to 60 full turns, let’s say—and does it run properly for a long time when you do?

If there’s a problem, it could be that the automatic winding mechanism (rotor, etc) isn’t functioning as it should. But it’s also possible that the watch just isn’t wound: that even though you’re wearing it daily, your regular movements just aren’t enough to keep it charged for any length of time. Unless you have an active lifestyle, this isn’t terribly unlikely. When I put on an automatic that’s not running, I wind it fully first, which can take a couple minutes of winding. And even though my regular movements probably keep it pretty well topped off (I am fairly active), I still give it a good 30 turns or so once a week, just to keep it going.

Also, make sure you're winding the crown the correct way. You say front to back and clockwise and I don't know what both mean together in the same sentence.

Look dead on at the crown (side of the watch) and turn the crown clockwise 60 turns. This is also refereed to turning the crown "upwards" if you're looking at the dial. After that, reevaluate.

Getting on five years of "continuous" wear may mean a service is required or due soon.

Yup tried winding it for 50 times maybe bit more. Doesn't do anything, sadly. Only the flabby arm gets it going for a few minutes

Another vote for service. Omega will get it back to original condition, no problem

Thank you all for taking the time to respond.

I have made contact with the chap that did it 4 years ago, implying that it can't be right that it's already not working.

If he wants money again, I will reevaluate what to do, and who I contact (thanks for the suggestion reg a couple of people in the UK).

I'm originally from the UK so may be able to get around Brexshit charges.

Thank you again.
