    Hello my friend and philosophers,

I am going to buy one omega seamaster calibre 501. As per my research the yr is 1956. The second hand is red. Uploading few photos. Need ur active advice whether to go ahead or to stop to take it.
See the dial and thing. The back cover carries omega watch company mark inside within trangle. Also wrote fit washer in back. Some numbers are there.

    Please comment.

    Thanks,
    Dhar

What has your research told you? Why do you want to buy it? What are your concerns? What is the price? Are you looking to flip it for a profit?

All these things are relevant don't you think? Help us to help you!!

Most of the members here are either asleep or just waking and going to work at this moment.

I'm off to bed in a minute or two but I'll try and help.

Your photographs show a very tired movement, a heavily corroded case, a blurry dial shot and an "unusual" red seconds hand.

I would not touch this watch.

    Cheers

    Jim

The reference number should be inside the case back -> Google the pics and check for originality. The short second hand might be original with the inner second markings, but the red is mispainted for sure. Also the printing of OMEGA looks suspicious as one can only guess due to the bad Picture quality, and as said the movement is everything else than fresh.

...In that case I'll give some advice

I don't think it looks completely bad. That red seconds hand has been discussed here before and if memory serves me, it was even on a similar watch. It was in a old thread, so cannot find it at the moment. I believe that the dial (judged from the not too great photo) is original.

As said, the case looks tired - it has certainly been polished a few times and the movement looks as if it could do with some oiling...

If it is very cheap, it could be a decent buy. If not, walk away.

Regarding the dial difficult to tell if it's a redial or not from those pictures but my first impression is original. Here a NOS 2846 red hander from @cicindela, so they do exist.

That was one of the watches featured in the thread I remember reading here.

After looking more closely at the dial in the OP, I am not so sure of originality. The markers overlap the minute track quite unevenly and the dial is very white, which is a bit curious when you consider the state of the rest of the watch. I'd expected more patina.

Want to buy to use it for me only. Not for collection to build meusium at home. Price is 242 usd.
No i am not going to sell it for profit. Atleast with that intention didnt approach. The watch is running.

My concern is after reading threads here everything can b a duplicate. So also this one. Thats why posted movement pics.

I think we're both guilty of reading the second post the wrong way... "There", not "here".

The pictures are of the right parts of the watch, but the quality of the pictures are not good enough to make an informed statement. You'll have to take photos nearly as good as the one 4 posts above this one in order to get good help. It is vital that the photo of the dial is a close-up and in focus.

It is impossible to give good advice without better pictures of the dial.

It might be a decent buy, it might be a waste of money.

242 usd is ok, but you get what you pay for.
You'll have to pay a watchmaker for
    - a revision, maybe spare parts of the movement
    - maybe case optimization / polishing
    - definitely a new crown and
    - most probably a new crystal.
So if you buy it as a restoration object AND dial and case are fine (better pics are missing to state the condition), you'll end up paying alot more than the purchase price.
