Sorry, I may have made a mistake. I saw a pic you posted with a 73 number, but now I understand it was not a pic of your watch - am I right? A hallmark with a / next to the howl means the gold content is at least of 75% (18 K). If there is no /, the gold content is at least of 50% (12 k).
Yes the 75 on the owl relates to the Paris assay office and I used that as an example as I do not have a macro camera. The number on mine is 44, which I have been informed relates to the Loire-Atlantique assay office.
I was led to believe that the 18k case met the minimum standard set by the French assay office, hence the owl import mark confirming this

Indeed, according to French standards, a gold product must have at least a 75% gold content. If not, it cannot be called gold made.

Hence the owl hallmark confirms this, that it meets those standards ? What I find confusing is the / mark you refer to. None of the photos I have managed to source show any such mark next to the owl. Do you have an example anywhere of this / mark next to the owl hallmark ? Thank you

I do not have a pic of a watch with this hallmark, but it looks like this:
Assume this image is taken from the net ? If so can you point me in the right direction or post a link ? Thanks again

Yes, it is. Here is the link. There are numerous other sites concerning this topic, almost all in French.

Thanks very much for this. After reading it has cleared up why mine or the other owl hallmark pictures I posted don’t have the / or \ marks, it would appear that these came into being in 1984. The photos I posted are from older pieces, my watch dates to 1947 so these marks didn’t exist back then, just the owl with the respective assay office number on its chest.
Thanks once again, you have been very helpful, appreciate it

As far as understand the old rules, the howl previously indicated a foreign or unknown 750 gold product. For a less gold content, the hallmark was ET. So your watch is 750 gold.
