Gd’day gents/ladies, I’ve won (by accident) an Omega seamaster cal.601 from an auction site. I didn’t notice the mentioning of the “after dial paint”. This somewhat upset when I realized it later. It says that it is an original Omega dial but after paint. In the end the total cost is 190 euro’s. How do you look at an after paint dial (original)? Is this something not done or permissble in certain conditions ( like a really good after paint)? Thanks in advance!
It will be frowned upon by members of this forum. But if you like it, wear it without worry. And for future purchases, check the Private Watch Sales on this site, for more transparent dealings.
As I said, that's really up to you. Personally, I don't like it, and I am not an expert, by any means. You can browse the forums for many examples of what it should like. Here's one that came up from a quick search.
I'll try to be polite, that looks awful. The price wasn't excessive, but as an obvious redial it wont win admirers here. Noob tax paid.
It may still be a (mostly) Omega watch. If you can have a watchmaker open it up and take a look & some photos to share. It might need a service, if you want to enjoy and wear the watch. Or, don't service it and consider selling what you have - I am not sure what you'd get back out of it, but it could partially defer your noob tax
Start it on ebay at 0.99 describing the dial as "restored", bear the loss with as much of a smile as possible, do some research and look for a nice example. Others have paid (sometimes considerably) higher tuition fees than you did.
Hey 190 euros for a Omega movement. Is it an Omega crown? If the movement is good and it's an Omega crown you didn't lose that much money. Always look on the bright side of life. The redial doesn't look that terrible as other people say imo. but it doesn't look good. But 190 euros is not that bad. You can wear it, try to sell it for around the same price or you can sell just the movement and crown if it's Omega. If it was over 300 euros, that would be another story.
The movement is 601. I’ve seen the picture of the movement and the crown is also original. It’s only the dial that is an after paint.
Im confident you can get 190 back or close on ebay. Say dial restored. Lots of people just care about the watch looking nice, this forum is a very different type of demograpic.
