hi all, i'm looking for a vintage seamaster ideally with a blue dial and saw this on ebay. it's exactly the kind of watch i'm after with a clean, simple dial but knowing next to nothing i have no idea really if it all looks original etc. the seller has a lot of feedback and has sold a tonne of vintage omegas but that still doesn't completely assure me

You're more apt to get information if you attempt some research also. Google Omega reference 14756 to start with and see what you find.

$400 seems high for this watch. It is authentic. Seller states the dial is original. I have doubts. Minute hand is bent. Crown is toast. "high quality leather strap" is too big for the lugs and is now wearing on the edges. I think you can find better by simply looking at the classifieds on this site.

Ref. 14756 should have cal. 600 (with swan neck regulator) and not cal. 601. Serial number on the movement 32 mil is pointing to 1970 and ref. 14XXX (five figured) was present roughly between 1959-1961 (experience). White colour on the dial should almost always rise some alarm bells. And text of "Seamaster" is not something I have seen before. I would go with "JimInOz" and say it's a Franken.
Just saw on a vintage Omega database. Ref. 14756 is NOT a Seamaster model.

i don't want to clog up the forum with another thread, but does anyone have any thoughts on this watch? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Omega-Se...sh=item1c6414488c:g:hxwAAOSwLpdW-OqS#payCntIdPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

obviously an older model that looks in much better condition, the only thing is it says it has 1020 movement, but when i've searched the movement it seems to include a day/date where as this just has a date? does that mean it's a sign it's a "frankenstein" ha. thanks once again

That would be my guess. I'm not sure about the dial color, either.

In fairness, he did find out that the 1020 is a day/date through his own research.

Didn't mean to imply that there are no blue dials; I have concerns beyond that. It may be legit but, given the issues with the movement, I have little faith that anything else is.

Tony, for 400$ and such a condition of the watch, I would suggest you walk away.

Welcome to the forum from another newcomer. I'm attaching a link to a black dialed watch similar to the vibe of the watches you have posted. No affiliation, with the seller, but I've found that patience with the for sale section here is much more satisfying than ebay. I set myself an avatar, posted on the introduction thread, read the rules, enjoyed learning from others on the forum and have seen a ton of watches so I have a better idea what to look for. And finally, I've had some great experiences buying beautiful watches from forum members. Take some time, set yourself an avatar, read and PM someone if you have interest.

    Greg.

looks in decent condition, movement seems to match up with the serial number, the seller has good feedback and seems to have sold a few vintage seamasters etc. cheers

Part of the analysis of watch verification is looking at all of the pictures posted by the seller.

In addition; reviewing their recent sales history, seller feedback, buying history and feedback, previous identities, locality etc etc.

Looking at a redial, torn caseback seal and a corroded case and movement is enough for me to go in another direction.
