    Hey Guys!

I recently got an Omega Seamaster Cal 551. I was told that this is super rare because most cal 551 was used for the constellation models and few were used for Seamasters. Has anyone here has more information about this or owns one the seamaster with cal551.

I used to have this one. Catawiki sent me an email to tell me about the history behind it; upload_2023-8-4_0-27-44.jpeg

“When they were send later to Omega for service, the people in Bienne changed the dial and the watch came back with the name Seamaster instead of Geneve. The reason was, that Omega could use the name Geneve only for gold watches
    produced in Geneve town!”

Thats is very suspect indeed. Otherwise how did the Geneve line continue into the 70s, long after the Omega Geneva factory was shut which was from memory around 1966. It also suggests all the chronometer dialled Seamasters have service dials which logically is nonsense.

That explains all those Geneve and Lucern marked pin lever watches. ;)

How else can you explain this original dial of Seamaster with Chronometer Certified? This came from an Omega expert at Catawiki so you have to ask them. :)

What I mean is this is the only Omega Seamaster series that has cal.551 movement and Chrono Certified written on the dial.

Why shouldn’t a Seamaster have a chronometer dial? There have been legitimate chronometer rated Seamasters made in every decade since the 1940s. Today AFAIK all of them are! I think it is you who needs who need to do the asking and find better sources.

It is however fair to say that the 551 wasn’t often seen in Seamaster chronometer models, more usually date or day-date movements were used instead.
