I'll preface this by saying, I know the Omega Seamaster Bullhead is a cool watch, and I know its a rare watch from the era, and quite frankly I think its pretty damn cool in a 1970s kind of way. I like it. I don't love it, I like it.

But I haven't seen one of these come up for sale on the bay before, and I've been looking a long time, but now this one pops up, in immaculate condition it must be said, but the price is a bit of a major shock.

$10,000 USD for a stainless steel 1970s chronograph...

Are these watches seriously rare enough to justify that sort of premium?

Not as far as I'm concerned. I thought £2000 was taking the piss... but I might have to soften my position on that !

In my mind yes they are very cool. But not enough for 10K unless you have all of the other seriously cool 10k Omegas . I'd rather have a 2915-3 or an 18kt NOS Connie Grand Luxe, etc. This is a pure collection piece , not to be worn.

It's a 5-10k watch depending on condition. Not rare but not common - I would say I see 5-6 for sale a year. Don't know the watch enough to say whether this one has a really nice case or a case that has been nicely refinished by omega. I share Steve's thinking that for that kind of money, there are other watches I would rather buy.

Just had a closer look at it. It is a restoration.

The dial has no T marks and is probably a modern service part (Edit: actually the originals don't seem to have had T marks, even though lume was used. So the dial could be original and well preserved). The case has been refinished and still has a couple of the original scar marks.

It's very clean, but I still think the pricing is way too ambitious.

looks good and original to me. do not forget, there are NOS cases out there. the major obstacle is finding a donor watch with caliber 930. dial and hands should be no problem. but then you will be at US$ 4000 anyway. and my pricerange would be between 4-5 K for an original example, unrestored. kind regards. achim

Is the Cal 930 movement particularly expensive? I know there are some De Villes floating around with it still going for reasonable money

One /slight/ downside is you have rather limited strap options...

I'm guessing the pricepoint is dramatically more realistic though ;)

This one was sold by Tajan in Monaco a few months back for £2,700, admittedly may not have been in as good condition but a far more realistic price.

Very interesting... So the dials are available NOS? The hands are identical to the Soccer Timer so that shouldn't be an issue. The date wheel is included which I'd imagine is the other tricky bit to find.

I'm watching that now... not sure if I'll take a shot at it or not but its interesting.

most of his watches 4 sale will be worth half price. but you never know; one idiot with too much money wakes up every morning . and that`s all you need.....
