·Hi everyone,
I recently won an auction for an Omega Seamaster 600 ref. 135.011 from the 1960s - to my surprise, at only €550.
The listing states that the watch has been "restored," but doesn't specify what that entails - it doesn't mention repainting. The dial looks very vivid and clean, so I'm wondering whether it might actually have been refinished. Still, it looks great overall, and if the restoration was done properly, I wouldn't necessarily mind at this price.
According to the listing, the watch has been "checked, cleaned and tested" (not fully serviced). The movement is a Cal. 601, serial 25,045,670, and the case reference 135.011 checks out. However, the movement doesn't look particularly clean to me from the photos.
The seller also claims there's a Hippocampus logo on the case back, but in the photos it appears to be plain (no logo) - which makes me wonder if the case back might have been replaced or over-polished.
I haven't provided payment details yet and would like to make sure everything matches the description before committing.
You can see the full listing and high-resolution
I'd really appreciate your help and opinions on:
Whether the dial looks original, restored, or repainted.
If the movement appears correct for this reference.
Whether the plain case back is a red flag.
And if this is still a fair buy at €550, given these details.
Thanks very much in advance for your insights!
