When Omega introduced the Seamaster 300M in 1993, their flagship model was the Chronograph reference 2296.80 that came in a combination of three materials: titanium, tantalum and rose gold. Sure, there was an all gold model as well, but this tri-color version was the model they advertised with for the new 300M (chronograph) collection. Tantalum […]

I really wish they chose to laser etch the hippocampus on the standard models too...

You’re 2296.80 looks really nice. I have the all Ti 2298.80 with blue dial, and my son can hardly wait for me to hand it down to him someday.

PS: your chronograph looks a bit nicer. I wish they’d have brought back the chrono version.

One thing you will immediately notice (we did at least), is the shape of the helium escape valve. An extra crown at 10 o’clock was one of the characteristics of the Seamaster Diver 300M, and it is still there, but now in a conical shape. Now patented by Omega as new technology now permits it to be used under water. We are not sure how many of these helium escape valves are actually being used (based on the high number of sold Seamaster Diver 300M models we suspect it really is a low number), but at least it is cool to know it can be used professionally. Having a 4×4 car also means it probably can do more than you do with it, it is just fun to know your watch is at least able to be used 300 meters under water and that the helium escape valve is there to protect the crystal from popping off after your saturation dive.

Wait what? No where in my manual does it state not to use the He valve under water.... I guess in hindsite it makes sense that if the watch is exposed to high pressure He its not going to be in water....

The new manual does state not to use it under 50m. Which they are pimping as a feature of the new watches...

It's not - the HEV has always had 50m water resistance when open.

In the basel video I could have swore the gentleman was making a big deal about how it is now water proof when open. Maybe he meant the red indicator part of that feature was new.

Yes you were right - he was making a big deal of it, but it's still not new.

Yeah, even my review of the SMPc chronograph on Amazon in 2014 mentioned 50M for the HeV.
