Any credible Infos out here? issued or not? any insight behind that Bezel without Calibrations? Curious..... Kind regards. achim
As a Canadian, I am curious now too. I have read that Rolex sold Royal and Hurricane observatory models to the Canadian forces for WW2 (maybe to boost enlistment numbers )
I've only ever seen one in the flesh, never seen any evidence that these were issued or are even original parts. Very cool though.
I bought that bezel at a london watchfair in the 90`s...... never seen the watch for it. is that real ? kind regards. achim
Hi, I happened to locate these two pictures on my file. It's for the reference 166.024 with BT dial and date. Sorry I can't recall where I found them. They might be from the OF, I'm not sure. I thought the bezel style was very cool and kept the photos. I would also love to hear more about this. Cheers!
Real as in it exists... No idea about its provenance, it's not original to the watch though, and the watch isn't RCAF.
There's no evidence the Hurricane was ever issued or supplied to Canadian forces. The watch was cased in Canada and sold to the public. I read everything I could find on the watches as I have one for sale and it's pretty certain that the forces idea is myth. (Of course, if you know different then I'd love to hear because I can then change the listing and genuinely call it a "military" watch).
I have a note about it in my wish list, but didn’t ref the source - I’ll keep looking and get back with anything credible
