Nice pictures.

Curious, why was the dial lume removed during servicing?

It was done by the previous owner. I suspect it didn't age well. Some of these really look like they have the mange sometimes ;-)

Sorry, don't quite understand. Granted I'm no expert, but the markers look right to me. I always thought that you only found the locating holes at the 12 and 6 position markers when the dial was original or at least a period service replacement.
How can you remove lume and leave the markers there, or is it a very nicely done 'vintage look' redial?
it would be interesting to know.

(lovely watch by the way, if you were in the UK I could be tempted.

I took it to mean that the 'top' of the lume was just carefully scraped off, as the sm300s are prone to the weird blotchy black marks in the lume. That would leave the dial 'original', but improve the appearance.

White paint underlies the markers on these, with lume over-painted/printed.

That is definitely a matter of opinion. Mine would be: better all-original lume than modified no matter how the original looked.
Very nice & uncommon watch regardless.

Agreed, Tom. Notice the quotes around 'original'... My preference is always for untouched dials, but if those can't be had, well, then at least it's not a redial.

Beautiful piece. The seller's honesty and full disclosure here should only help to bolster this sale.

If I weren't in the same boat I would be all over this SM date. 😉
Best,
