Hello, I am in the process of reviewing my father's estate and came across an old Seamaster 300. From the forums and other internet resources, I am questioning the authenticity of the watch. The serial number and movement match from what I found on the internet/forums. Nothing looks re-lumm'ed etc. My concern is there is no white square around the date, and T Swiss Made on the bezel. I over 45 and remember this watch as a kid, so not sure if this is a franken, or legit.
Were they really faking these 30+ years ago ? It’s not that I’m trying to question the OP, rather I thought these fakes were more recent.
I don’t think they faked them 30 years ago there was no point they weren’t the money like they are now
I don’t think anyone is questioning that it’s not fake. Rather the OP states he remembers it 30 years ago. That doesn’t make sense to me. So if they weren’t faking them 30 years ago then there’s a gap in the original post. Could be they remember wrong, or it was switched for a fake recently, or something else...
The assertion that fake Omegas were not made 30 yers ago is wrong. Fake Omegas came along with the real ones...even 30 years ago. In the old days, they faked everything then slapped a movement in it. It wasn't as cheap but it was still worth while for the fakers. It wouldn't be as "cost effective" today to go down that route although still in vogue for the very high cosat watches such as exotic dialed vintage Rolex sports models.
No ones asserting that in general. It’s more a question about these type of fakes. There’s absolutely no way it’s a contemporary fake as it’s got an Omega movement.
Contemporary yes...but not a fake du jour in today. Those fakes were indeed made parallel to the real ones. 30 years isn't that long ago
30 years ago was the late 80’s. Not contemporary to when the watch was new. I was under the impression these ‘stubby’ fakes came out late 80’s/90’s.
