This is my first post so hope it's in the correct place. I've seen this Omega Seamaster for sale for £280 and I'm curious to know a little more about it and it's authenticity. It's a linen dial, 550 caliber, gold filled and I was told it's from 1960. It was recently serviced but not sure the exact date.

Is it legitimate and worth the price?

Thanks

The dial looks refinished and in bad shape, the case has worn out at many spots and a tired movement.
I wouldn't pay for shipping cost if you gave it to me.

Good questions.

The Omega website, couldn't find the exact model and closest I found had a 552 caliber, this is 550. Also, similar models had a different caseback when I did a Google search.

I really like the linen dial. It has been serviced recently unlike others on eBay.

The linen patina looks a little dirty compared to non linen patina dials, but I'm not sure how linen patinas.

Thanks.

Recently took a pass on a similar Omega, mainly because I couldn't find any reference to it online and couldn't determine whether it's a redial or not (I came here as this is where Google brought me in the end, as it's a linen dial too)

How was this one a redial tho? It would be great if these redial verdicts came with explanations so we can learn to more easily spot them too

Dial degradation to this extent would most certainly effect the lettering as well. That the lettering is so crisp, and the crosshairs as well (problematic for other reasons that I won’t get into), point to a redial. As a reference, here’s a linen dial of mine that’s not in the best shape, and also American cased (as is the watch above), but shows consistent age/damage in dial and writing

Actually this is a better photo that shows the fading of the print. Among other problems 😀 And this is an original dial
