Purchased this as a 'non-runner' and in a bit of a state but I thought it was worth the risk and worth restoring. omega 1040 001.JPG omega 1040.1.JPG Omega 1040.3.JPG View attachment 219616

No I'm afraid it was beyond my abilities.

Sweet dial! Whoever did the restore looks like they took good care of it.

Nice! I love these 007s. I assume dial & hands were replaced during this service? Would you happen to have the original hands lying around? I'm trying to bring one back to original condition.

Also: may we perhaps see a before picture? ::popcorn::

Hi, no the dial and hands are original. The hands have been relumed. It was the movement that was knackered hence all the new parts in the photo

I thought the minute hands on these were needle hands, ie they went into a sharp point at the ends? I know the GF ones had hands like yours, but the SS ones were different.

Well there were as many hand and dial variations as there were watches especially if they had ever been sent back to omega for a service! (Luckily mine hadn't!)
There's some excellent links under 007s versions on the forum

And it worth googling 007 images too

It's tricky. Certainly the 176.001's (precursor to this - the ones with no tachy ring) had needle hands, and possibly early 176.007's as well, iirc. I know for a fact that some came with these baton hands at some point also (unless the jeweler changed the hands on my new one back in the 1970s ;-). In any case, service hands were all in the style of the above watch.

Here's mine with the matte service dial with black hour register & white tachy ring. This configuration is seen on originals (like the OP's dial) also. Also note the incorrect (red ) replacement chrono hour hand on mine....

Other dials appeared, as well. Below, my original metallic sunburst dial with white hour register & blue tachy ring.

Either are correct for ST 176.007 and both appear in period ads, with the needle hands (no longer available) considered to be earlier. There's a decent chance they overlapped though.

Since we're sharing helpful links for 176.007s, I created this thread which documents all the legitimate dials, and it includes the following chart that explains which dials went with which case ref. including the 007. Someday soon I plan on doing something similar for hands and bezels. 210894-c96140dbaee9abbb52ea8732de37fc0a.jpg

These are super cool, and are a great value in the vintage omega chrono world. Got one incoming :)
