I am trying to learn to fish. I saw this watch on eBay and it looks right to me...original dial, correct movement, case doesn't look over polished, average price 700usd. Am I correct here, have I overlooked or misjudged?

The crown is incorrect but that aside it looks like a good example and a fair price.

Thank you so much Davidt, I did not notice the Crown. So much to learn.

The original crown is discontinued, so that is the current replacement. I wouldn't reject a watch because of it if you otherwise like it.

With the bracelet, $700 seems like a good price (not sure what you mean by "average price"); I like the cross-hair dial.

You will want to check that the vertical brushing on the case sides is intact and that the case-back isn't badly over polished. This is a pretty common reference (in Japan), so you can be patient for a good one. As you may know, there is also a chronometer version and some other similar references (168.024, 166.009, etc.).

Lower-left: 166.009
Upper-right: 166.010 (chronometer)

Thank you!

What I meant was that the price seemed reasonable for what was being offered based on previous ebay sales.

Additionally, be aware that there are two types of case. One has a strictly flat side where the graining is, and the other is curved, which is what I have. I point this out not that one is any better than the other, but in case you compare two and notice they're different.

Good price, but I am still more a Fan of the no date version - 165010

I ended up going with the no date version.

That is nothing like the no-date version of the 166.010 IMO. TOTALLY different style. See @tamura's post.
Fair...I was not being precise. I found a reference I liked and it also has no date.

Yeah I think that crosshair was what got me. It's a 165.002 btw since I didn't say before.

Huh no bracelet listed for that reference, officially. Might have to see what fits.
