IMG_20171119_225003779.jpg Walking past a Jewellery store today I was drawn to the watches on display where there were a selection from various ''respected" manufacturers.
I am probably slightly biased having purchased a new 300M a few months ago but upon a visual inspection of an Omega and a similar looking Rolex I had to ask myself, are they really 2 or 3 times better than my Omega?

They're luxury products. Pricing is not linear with quality.

I think it’s the weight. Rolex watches are heavier ::facepalm1::

While quality and cost of materials and labor are very similar across both brands. No one is really bemoaning the price differential except in Biel.

Do you really think an Escalade costs 4x the price of the base pickup that shares it chassis and drive train? Or the Denali at 2/3’s the price that except for body work basically the same?

Luxury goods and price perception make zero sense. On the other hand Rolex do hold value...

Rolex are 8-10 times better at least. I can't find it now but there's a thread on WUS that explains why perfectly.

In regards to what? In general Rolex has slightly better case material and Omega tends to have better movements...

But with Rolex’s recent changes to movements to bring them up to Omega feature levels and Omega expanding case technology it’s fairly even. 30% or more for the same watch feature wise is not justified even if you think Rolex is better in all areas.

They are 2 different philosophies between them and the 2 closest in competition for customers.

As for joking about WUS. Well 2 different cultures of collectors... at least I assume since I can never find any thread again over there in the hundreds of sub forums and posts about best watch for the zombie apocalypse. ;).

Your Omega is not 20x better than a nice Seiko, what's your point?

I think Rolex's iteration of a GMT watch is the best out there. For chronographs, IMHO Omega's Speedmaster stands head and shoulders above all others. For diving watches, the Rolex Submariner is certainly a classic, but there is more parity in the dive watch category than in chronographs. I prefer Omega Seamasters due to their larger size vs. Submariners. The Rolex Sub measures 40mm, and they only recently released an updated Sea Dweller with a 43mm case. But hey, those are just my preferences.

What do you mean by "better"? It's very hard to compare an apple and an orange. They are both great brands and are different...

Some Rolex watches tend to hold their value better than Omega watches. So for some that is "better".

Well.....you did come to an Omega forum and ask. What did you expect.? You would probably get the same on a Rolex forum, just the other way around. This forum is by far the best the internet has to offer. This forum is truly for collectors and some probably don't even own any Omega's and are experts with other brands. It's scary the collective knowledge of all the brands on this forum. Those that do own Omega's, usually have a plethora of other quality brands, which I am one. Although, Omega will always have a soft spot in my heart. There are a lot of quality brands besides Omega and Rolex if people would open their eyes.

True but this has ZERO to do with quality, workmanship, timekeeping etc. It is 100% marketing and in that regard yes Rolex is better than pretty much any other company on earth.
