For me the Omega SM300 Diver is probably the nicest looking entry-level watch in that style - ever since the latest black version I've been sorely tempted to pick one up for a holiday watch.

... but then again $4.4k puts the bar high for "entry level" ...

the Tissot in the same article with 80hrs power reserve for below $1k looks quite interesting ... plus I like what they did to the date window ...

Considering you can get one on the GM for $2600-2700 right now and have it in 2 days the cost of entry is much lower if you are willing to risk no warranty. In my area by the time you add tax you'd be looking at $4800 at an AD if you paid full price. For that you could buy one via GM and if the watch totally blows up you could find another one in good condition on the secondary market for about 2k and be right at $4800 anyway.

I had a Seamaster Pro 300 for a few years before selling it earlier this year to focus more on vintage pieces. Very, very hard to find anything negative about it. An absolutely bloody great watch - comfortable, good-looking, hard wearing and accurate. The low profile makes it possible to wear under cuffs and everyone will think you're a secret agent (I made that last one up).

Oh, I guess that turning the bezel is probably impossible with wet fingers or while wearing gloves, but that's about it.

I just bought the blue on from a GM dealer online and I couldn't be happier. Took it to an Omega boutique to get de-magnetized (it was running fast - perhaps the overnight shipping??) - now it is solidly at +2 seconds. It is my first luxury piece and by far my favorite aesthetic. The whole package beats out the ugly brute Submariner any day of the week! And for a novice watch nerd who cares more about the look and the accuracy of the movement than the name or prestige, I think it cannot be beat.

Obviously I will need to try to MC 8500 - I'm thinking Aqua Terra once I save the dosh. Cheers!

The SM300 imo is about the best diver at the under 10k price point in terms of style, history, tech and versatility. I think it's brilliant.
