Here is a redial done by Omega of a 1950s Seamaster Calendar (CK 2757 I believe). I think they did an absolutely fantastic job, and as controversial as redials are, it was the right choice in this case. As an added bonus they matched the dial with the date wheel in a parchment colour. My wife uses it when she rides dressage, so there is no point having an immaculate original watch for activities like that - A restored watch fits the bill perfectly. And there is no radium present now, which can only be a good thing.

This is the before treatment photo

It was a redial and stayed a redial. So in this case I would say it's a improvement!

I think it looks very nice and better than the poor redial that it had previously. Since it didn't have much value to collectors previously, you had nothing to lose. Very pretty watch and I'm glad you wife wears it with pride as she rides.

Superb redial over a very poor redial. Well done.

OP says the job was made by Ω :D - could you tell us what they charged for that terrific job, @nkhandekar ?

I 2nd that. Your watch looks fantastic.

I have my father's circa 1954 Constellation that was his daily wear until the mid-00s. At some point, the dial was redone. While my siblings have found the original box and papers, they haven't checked for service records, which, knowing my dad, have a 50/50 chance of existing.

While Desmond and Gator CPA have opined that, as far as redials go, mine is pretty good, I still have thoughts of getting an original dial. That said, if Omega is providing their own redial service, that may be something to look into.

I dont want to spoil the party but it's nicely done and in this case wear it with pride and joy. I really mean this. But it's not a superb redial. You see instantly it's a redial and with superb redials that's not the case. This is a superb redial. Or am I really a jerk when writing this? Sorry for that...

Imho, you now have a very attractive watch. As a redial, it will not appeal to the majority of collectors, but then again, it's not the majority of collectors that are wearing it and enjoying it in its restored condition - it's your wife.

I can't see any downside

Compare with my the original dial on my KO 2627:

    IMG_0350.jpeg Omega CK 2757 After treatment 1 cropped.png

You could quibble, if you insisted, about the S in Seamaster, but it changed from one year to the next, so there's no point. Otherwise, the dial color and finish is quite nice, the lettering is perfect (yes, I see that A in OMEGA, it changed in the year between these watches), and the appliques look very nice too.

When it comes time for my 50s Seamasters to be serviced next, I will likely opt to have the hands updated and dial refinished. It's the factory, after all, not aftermarket junk.

Some days I think you guys get waaaay too caught up in this stuff. No one is selling these for $50,000 like they are for old beat-up Speedmasters. That's a rant for another day.

I would be proud to have that watch.

    Tom

Here is an Omega factory redial, has cost me 700 bucks (they call it restoration).

You can discuss whether this makes sense on a Cosmic, for me it did!

Your watch looks superbe by the way ..

@Pepe Lucas one of the reasons I decided to do the redial at Omega is that the case was / is still in very good condition.

I needed to do a revision and Omega said the dial was damaged and they would only do the full overhaul including dial restauration because it did not fit properly anymore.

You can think of it what you want, and I was angry at first. But when I saw the result I was really happy.

Before it had lots of spots on the dial and the lumen had been refilled in a very bad way. They reversed all of this and in the end I got a 50 year old and watch that looked liked new.

I know many collectors would disapprove but for me it worked :)

I'm an inexperienced noob, and besides the exemplary terribly done redials used elsewhere on this forum for educational purposes, I couldn't distinguish a good/superb redial/restoration for the life of me.

I really thought I was finally having a breakthrough when I saw the before photo.
But this thread just confused me all over again.

I agree with you. The final result on your watch looks really nice. One of my friends did his with Omega and it came really amazing. This is the reason I’m considering doing it. 889AB2BB-1A07-4348-A7B4-AE13DC162585.jpeg A3CE69DF-1F3A-45FF-914F-B74831F6B37C.jpeg
