Omega Railmaster v Rolex Oyster Perpetual

So I did a video comparison of the Omega Railmaster versus the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39mm. It's only my second video, so I appreciate any feedback.

To summarise my thoughts, I think in terms of finances, both of these watches are equals, depending on whether you prefer value for money, or resale value. The dial/case and bracelet are also equally matched. The Railmaster has the superior movement, but the Oyster Perpetual has the superior provenance, both in terms of the model itself and it's maker.

At the end of the day, these watches, although similar in price, have different design philosophies. The Railmaster is a tool watch, where function takes precendece. The Oyster Perpertual is a classic dress watch, much more predisposed to deliver an elegant form.

The decision on which one to purchase rests on your needs. But perhaps the best decision, is to buy both.

All the best, Rashid.

I would buy a Rolex, if it was an OMEGA.

Rolex's second hand price is more dictated buy the brand's name than anything else, Omega to me has greater value for the money you pay. Great comparison!

i appreciate your effort. but you're talking too much boilerplate stuff, history and brand than you are comparison.

this isn't a good comp looks wise. price, size and few other things, yes. but the starting point imo should be looks.

that omega is semi tool/field..with some dress aspects...with a more sportier look, while the rolex is much dressier...and the only way you're gonna make it sporty is throw a colored nato or rubber on it.......the comp doesn't even make it passed the eye test...

an OP vs sinn 556, hailos seaforth, gp and i'm sure you can find a couple others..would be a good vid, as they which virtually look the same.

Both! I tried to get an OP36 with the white dial before it was discontinued. Was promised one for weeks and weeks. Then they got discontinued and my Rolex AD stopped giving a monkeys about me and told me where to go, despite promising they'd source one before the new models came in! The whole experience of chasing the opportunity to buy a watch was so disgusting that I walked into an Omega boutique a few weeks later and bought an Aqua Terra. Now I'm part of the Omega family for my first proper watch! So happy with my decision, the co-axial 8800 is a BEAST.

Omega with a superior movement compared to the Rolex? Bold statement! I鈥檇 take the Rolex, hands down, in every respect, personally. But then don鈥檛 listen to me. My newest watch is 31 years old!

I'm not sure that this is a comparison of apples v apples.

The Rolex is very much more an upmarket watch, the OP has white gold fixtures and fittings on the dial, it has a polished bezel all of which give the watch a more upmarket look. The Omega is by comparison more workman like, painted indices and steel hands, a fully brushed case and bezel.

But of the two I would buy the Omega, I think that it is a better looking watch, I maybe a touch biased as I have the Railmaster and it is just awesome.

Mine originally came on a blue denim / calfskin strap, I have changed this to Omega's tan leather strap and deployant that is used on the Seamaster 300 and Aqua Terra which sets the dial off beautifully.

Pictures below show Railamster lume with the watch on its original strap and then on the tan leather strap.

Whats the lug-to-lug on the Railmaster? I'm falling in love with this watch the more I see it.

I鈥檝e always thought that the Ranchero dial looks just a little bit too 'busy'. I鈥檝e always like that case style thought and the Rolex has a similar case.

Again, I like the uncluttered elegance of the Rolex dial.

That鈥檚 probably why I wear an Omega 166.010 or an old Seiko
