Hello! I have a two year old Omega Planet Ocean 8500 that is supposed to have a 60 hour power reserve. I am only getting 34-36 hours after I fully wind it via crown. Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Might need to go in under warranty, all of the PO 8500s should still be covered at the moment

How are you certain you are 'fully winding it' via the crown? GIven it is auto, you won't be able to identify when it is at full wind.

Based on manual it says to wind in 15-20 times clockwise I wound it 40. I also (different time) left it on a watch winder a full 12 hours at 1440 turns per day so in 12 hours should be fully wound since manual states it takes 720 tpd. Watch still stopped at 35 hours.

Thanks for the info. I was wearing it all day though so it should have been fully wound.

After wearing it all week for 12 hours a day, taking it off Friday night and winding it 40 times via crown it should not have stopped in 36 hours. It should have made it through the weekend at the very least. I was asking if anyone might know why this would happen. I am sure the watch was fully wound.

    Hi Mike,
If it helps, did you feel a slight clicking as you wound towards the end? If so, then you know you've wound it maximally cos you've reached the overwind protection thingy (sorry if I'm not using the right terms - if someone can correct me that would help).

It does sound like your watch should be fully wound. The halving of the PR makes me wonder if you had the same problem as I did last year with the 8500 barrel. It also happened at about 2 years to my Aqua Terra. Swatch Singapore fixed the problem swiftly and efficiently though, kudos to them. So yep, bring it back to Omega since it's still under warranty.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful! I did hear a slight clicking sound. It sounds like we had very similar problems. This is really helpful. I will bring it in and have it checked out. Thanks again

And if it does prove to be a problem with the barrels that Al described , try to ask Swatch/Omega if they can return the damaged barrels to you.

If you could photograph them that would be great - I know Al Archer would like a 'pathological specimen' to confirm the diagnosis ;)
