I got offered this Omega Pie Pan 168-005/6SC in 18K solid gold but the dial is a mess. Is it still worth restoring? The owner wants $1,500 for it. Many thanks.

IMHO Garbage dial and not a pie pan.

    PASS!!
Very poor redial of a 'semi pie pan'
    Heavily polished case
Gold content only (if it is gold)

I'm totally ignorant and trying to suck up what knowledge I can.
I am going to state things I see that concern me and would appreciate feedback to make sure I'm on track.
First. The star looks misplaced, almost floating off at the wrong angle.
Second. The minute hashmarks (sure that term is wrong) look haphazard rather than aligned with the geometry of the dial.

Did I get any of that right?

    all of it!

this really is a shocking redial -but to add to some additional things as to what to look for:
font is wrong on both upper and lower lettering
the swiss made looks as though it has been done with a sharpy
cross hairs are usually continuous and go through to the metal indices
there is no lume but it says T swiss made T
    hands look replaced too IMO

check out Desmond's site if you want to soak up info on Connies

Just to add to the above the Omega Logo is off center, and I don't think there should be any T's with the "swiss made"

Damn shame how nice watches meet their demise. Looks like Earl Scheib did the redial.

Hands are the one thing that actually look fine...here's what a pie pan and the font should look like for reference...

Quite a difference, you can use this as a guide if you like. When I first started looking at constellations I kept a good example at hand to compare the different references, this helped a lot! Good luck with your search...you're doing it the right way...ask first, buy last.;)

Just for price reference, I didn't pay $1500 for mine above...complete robbery on that one you posted!

That is a beauty. I did not buy the watch anyway. I just felt bad for it and was wondering if it was still worth restoring. I got my answer from all the well meaning people here. Thanks again.

What a monstrosity!! And just to add the case has also been heavily polished. This ref has a dog leg case and should have sharp edges at the bend in the lugs.

If you're going to buy it, do it for no more than a very conservative estimate of the value of the gold. So, a fraction of the price you've been offered. Restoring it will be expensive and would probably end up leaving you with a less than satisfactory watch.

And that is if it's running. If it's not, the seller should pay you for even suggesting $1500.

Hopefully your watch broker didn't offer you this one.... With the amount of stunning watches you have, I'm surprised you gave this one the time of. Day.... ::facepalm1::
