Been asked a lot here at the shop about how to pronounce this and I wanted to see what the lot of you have to say about it...

Omeega, like the rest of the world or Omayga like the US?

I was in the boutique at Phipps Plaza here in Atlanta the other day and I said Omeega and they seemed very pleased.

    What's your opinion?

Reckon from my experience here in the UK it is pretty much fifty fifty, personally I have always been Omiga - daring to be different :)

I've always pronounced it Oh-me-gah, although my old Ancient Greek teacher would probably be unhappy!

I vaguely recall an old episode of Dr. Who where the pronunciation was OH-meh-guh....

O-me-ga. I am Italian and I pronounce like this, with no accents. I Swiss friend told me at once, while climbing, that it was the correct way... But as you know there are at least three major languages spoken in Swizterland and her one was Deutsch (German). Therefore I am not 100% sure. Surely not O-mi-ga, I'd say.

I should pronounce it and upload a mp3 file.. Well, like it's written: O-ME-GA. Not O-MAY or O-MY or O-MI. And with a full "O", not "Ou" or "Oo.."

    :)

I have just asked a British colleague to pronounce "Omega" as she would say in her usual way of speaking and in effect she pronounced it "Omeega". Like to say, phonetically, Oumiiga. Instead I mean "O-me-ga" and in effect I see it's not so easy for her to pronounce "me" in the right way.

Yeah, that's the generally accepted ancient Greek pronunciation. This is a dilemma. You've got 007 saying "oh-MEE-ga", Buzz Aldrin saying oh-MAY-ga" and the Time Lords saying "OH-meh-guh." Let's call the whole thing off.

Almost as bad as the great Zeenith/Zehnith/tsay-NEET debate.

We should call and ask for info to the Swiss owners of the brand. Or at least at their employees.

Good idea, except the German pronunciation of Zenith sounds ridiculous in an English language conversation, even on the rare occasions that it's pronounced correctly. I think oh-MEE-ga sounds just as silly in an American English conversation. I'm going to go with the accepted American English pronunciations of zenith and omega, because I prefer sounding ignorant to sounding pretentious, but to each his own.
