    Hello all,

I’m new to the watch world and as a new born enthusiast I’ve been trying to land my first Omega until recently I found and bought this sweet “ vintage Sea Master De Ville.” I didn’t have enough time to really investigate the watch but EBay seller promised authenticity. The Omega store offered watch service and professional authentication at a very reasonable starting price of $500 and a 2-3 month wait. Que the womp womp...

Wondering if you could help out this noob... can anyone tell me if this ‘looks’ real?

    Did you buy it?
The dial was repainted wrongly coming with a tired movement.

It's genuine, but that's the only good news about it.

I bought it for $350. So the redial is painted. Does the movement look original?

Movement is original and in very poor condition, a service and parts will outstrip the value of this watch.

Looks pieces together. The weight is a different color then the movement.

They were trying to get a match to the crown (which isn't original to the watch).

If the watch is in good working condition and I only paid $350 - would it be worth to keep it and have it cleaned/polished? Being that this is my first omega watch, would it be a good starter?

thanks again for everyone's help on this?

It's not a good price, or a good starter. The only positive quality it possesses is that you can return it, and it helped you learn a valuable lesson

Polishing the case isn't reccommended. Being gold plated, polishing will buff off the plating. Main problem of this watch is the movement, which looks quite poor. You seem to like it but for that money plus what you will spend on it you can find much better starters.

For me it is a clear NO.

It would be a nice starter. Yes, it is most likely a repainted dial, but I've seen worse and if you can get a service done at your local watchmaker, wear it and enjoy it! Forget about the Omega shop and their outrageous offer.

I agree with those who recommend returning. This is not the way to invest your hard-earned money.

Looks like the case has already seen the bad end of the buffing wheel.

Please read "Learn How To Fish" ...Return this piece of crap to the seller and invest some time here learning before you buy. You also need to understand what to say to a watchmaker. Its all here on OF. To be fair I personally have paid noob tax which is exponentially in excess of what you have paid. If only I had done what I am suggesting.::facepalm1::

Hello, big thanks to everyone for their input. I get how this piece might be a product of different unoriginal components in relation to how this seller advertised the model and quite frankly I was expecting a lot of the responses but if the movement is genuine and in good working condition, is this really that bad of a starter? Surely the movement itself would be more than $350 If it was clean and not weathered?

Clearly you haven't gotten the message, the watch is a piece of shit, return it or cancel the sale if you can.

I am also quite new to this entire vintage watch game but from the perspective of a collector this watch is very unimpressive :

    1) Redial - and not even correctly done [The nightmare of a collector!]
    2) The movement is in average condition
    3) Service needed -> will outstrip the initial cost
    4) Crown does not match the model

It is not a great deal at all but if you just want to wear it and plan NOT to get rich from this investment than this watch could be fine (although you could find way better deals for your money!).

    Cheers & Best Regards,

    No.

Watch is crap but if you want it, buy it, you don't need anyone's approval to spend your money.
