Evening all, Mooching through the internet... as you do... and found the museum collection 1938 pilot re-issue. Anyone owned one of these, or have any experience of them?
Hmm I thought I had seen all of the Museum pieces awhile back at an event. Not missing much with this one...
Not that my opinion is worth much... but I can't say I like it. I think that the Japan only version was much better looking, but still not something that I really want. What's weird for me is that typically I don't like Roman numerals on watches. But this just seems more balanced than the Arabic on the original.
I was offered one at a very, very good price... but couldn't work out if I wanted it, or just wanted it because of the price. I've decided that I don't want it... and I can't quite say why... there's something about it that just doesn't work for me.
Actually I dredged this up from my memory, and it took me a while to find it. The very best version of this watch was the Ref 5770.71.01: Limited to 150 from what I could find.
Here are a couple other pictures I could find on the web. Evidently sold as a "ladies" watch, despite it's 40.5mm case size. I'd be comfortable wearing it ;-)
I'm sure that they come up for sale quite often if you trawl the internet sales and auctions. Never seem to be that expensive so I guess it never really caught on.
I found a FS post from WUS from 6 years ago for the limited edition one I posted about. I remember seeing this at the time as I really liked it, but IIRC it was still being sold for around $2900 at the time. Not certain, and the price is gone. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/rare-omega-museum-pilot-462328.html

Has a Bremont SE incoming... so selling lots of toys...
Yeah, the standard version gets a solid "meh" from me. But for some reason I love the limited edition.
