Just wondering why this omega might be missing the broad arrow if it were military issue.

What makes you think it is military issued? Are there markings on the back?

Edit: Actually, I looked more closely and it seems that someone may have painted over the pheon, or washed it off. There seems to be a different colored patch below OMEGA. The watch seems to have fixed lugs. Can you post a photo of the back? Does it have WWW?

The back is blank but this is the inside of it.

Any further thoughts on why the dial looks a bit different?

There is nothing on the outside of the case-back?

Definitely looks like a deliberate attempt to erase the exterior military markings.

Seems like a lot of trouble. Weird, right?

It may seem weird, but it's actually not uncommon. At the time, people who stole military property didn't want it to be obvious.

Items used by the military often became "lost".

Military items were often "sterilized" due to the the fact that they were "inappropriately appropriated" :)
