Omega Memomatic Service 980

Hi, I purchased a beautiful memomatic last year. It runs but not well and the date jump is off about 30-45 mins. I took it to the local omega dealer and they sent it off to omega for full service. It had to go to Switzerland since the US repair location didn’t service 980s. Anyway, six months later the watch comes back with a cryptically short message that they did nothing since they don’t repair memomatics anymore. Does that sound right to you guys? I routinely see memomatic watches advertised as “recent factory serviced.” Are there any independent watchmakers that service the 980? Love the watch but time is wildly inaccurate day to day. Thanks.

Doesn’t sound at all right. My Memomatic was serviced by Omega in Switzerland last September without any problems, including I should note no cleaning of the dial, no change of hands or crystal (just realignment for the central logo) and no case polishing; all the things that people claim get done wrong by Omega.

Omega won't change those parts unless they feel it would cause a possible warranty return, so if they left those parts on the watch, they clearly didn't think it would be a problem.

I can assure you if they did think it would cause a problem, they would have changed the parts or refused the service.

Wow. That’s irritating to hear. My watch would’ve been there at the same time yours was. I sent it into omega in august. Got it back in February. I’d send it back again but I’m afraid of losing another six months. What dealer did you use to return it?

My apologies. I just checked my service confirmation letter again and see that I got the year wrong! It was sent in August 2020; somehow I lost a whole year! Looks like I’m suffering from long COVID.

I’ll email my contact in Biel/Bienne and see if I can get the latest info on Memomatic servicing for you.
