    Hi,
Do anyone know where I can find a nice genuine and affordable Omega leather strap with buckle to a Omega Constellation from the mid 60s (see picture)?

    Thanks,
    Andreas

Most vintage buckles and straps are fake, but modern ones exist. The dial on that constellation is a very recent redial, did the seller tell you about that?

I know that www.wristchronology.com has some NOS Omega straps with buckles but they are usually quite expensive.

Yes, I did know about that. The watch was in for service recently. I know that many prefer the old ones with some patina, but I like them in mint condition. What do you think?

It's just that the original was quite different, the layout for the dial is a fair bit off, especially the second indices and text

Ok, thanks! I've seen that the new ones are quite expensive, but I would not mind a used one in a good condition.

The original dial should look something like this.

    Hi,

I agree that there are a few differences between the two, especially the second indices. However, I double checked with the seller if it has been redialed but she insists on that the dial is a restored original. What are your thoughts on that? If you do not agree, which model do you think that the dial on my watch belongs to? I have attached some more pictures to consider.

The case back was changed to a gold model. Case ref. 14393 1 sc. Caliber 561. Movement ref. 19691657. Diam. approx 35 mm (excl. crown).

    Many thanks in advance,
    Andreas

In the Sales corner is a guy who sells these buckles. EUR 95 each. I found myself a gold plated one for EUR 50, bought it from a vintage watch trader. Beware, there are lots of fakes. Personally I would not bother if I were you, for the watch is not original either. Redial, wrong caseback.. indices at 6 and 9 look off..

Thanks Jelle, but could you please be a little more specific - do think that it is a fake or that it is not original since some of the parts have been changed to parts belonging to other constellation models (yet genuine omega parts)?

    Best,

Redialed means the original paint and finish was all scraped off, and a new dial was painted over it, restored original is a weasel word sellers use on eBay a lot, it doesn't mean anything other than that its been stripped and repainted, because it wasn't redone using an original die the fonts are different as is the design, its not off another model watch its just not a very close approximation of the old dial. Restored original really is an oxymoron as it can't be both original and restored, especially when the original dial has been stripped off completely in the process.

Around here when we say "original" we mean that the watch (or component of the watch) is the same as when it left the factory, and has been unaltered except by wear and patination over time. Whereas many people, like yourself, use the word "original" to simply mean made by Omega, but not necessarily part of the watch as it left the factory. This is where the confusion arises.

So your watch is not a fake, since all the parts of it were made by Omega. But in our understanding of the word it is not original, since the caseback is from a different watch and the dial has been re-painted (not terribly well, sadly).

None of this should prevent you from wearing and enjoying your watch. But it does affect its value.

    Dsio and John,

Thanks a lot for your quick and helpful responses, much appreciated! This info provides a lot of guidance for a newbie like myself. Just out of curiosity, who does the redialing (e.g. only certain authorised watchmakers)?
