When did Omega introduce Omega labelled crystals? Is there really any benefit over a generic crystal? Or is just part of Omegas constraint on availability of parts?

What do you mean? Omega crystals will come in Omega packaging of course.

If you mean the Omega symbol stamped into the crystal, that has been around for decades.

I don't believe we have a firm date, but I had an original crystal in an eary 50s watch that had the symbol.

As for benefit... it really depends on the profile. You don't want a crystal that doesn't quite fit, especially in a water-resistant watch. Omega used a lot of tension-ring crystals and those are even more important to fit properly.

I have an early Seamaster Calendar with a signed crystal. Serial number 13.0M from about 1953.

No idea if crystal is original, but I guess no one else here knows if theirs is original either.

I would have expected a domed crown....

The crown might be a replacement. I had to have it and a buckle I purchased plated in pink gold to match.

Then again, it might not. The “bowler” crowns generally came on US market pieces, which were marked “Swiss” and not “Swiss Made”. My watch is marked “Swiss Made” and does not have an OXG import code.

My point is that unless one is the original owner of a piece, no one can know if wear parts like crowns or crystals are original.

Ah. I'm currently wearing an International piece and if this domed crown isn't original, I'll be very surprised. More vintage-shaped Ω symbol, also in its no-longer with us crystal. But if you've had to have the pieces plated, then right or wrong, I wouldn't change.

I took a chance on a NOS crystal from Poland; we'll see how OS it is. 😀

It certainly could be. Omega used many suppliers back then.

None of my new Seamaster/Planet Oceans have signed crystals but they are all Sapphire. Are the modern Hessalite crystals still signed?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I presume sapphire is too difficult to sign?

They have done it some watches, but it's not widespread.
