May have an hour or two on my hands in Detroit and am wondering if there are any good (new or preowned) spots worth checking out. I gather the OB in town is not open (hasn’t opened yet or is closed for renovation or something?).

Interested in good spots for other brands too, I suppose.

Go to Somerset Mall. Tappers have many brands and some pre-owned. The mall also has a Breitling, Tag Heuer and Shinola store. Some folks scoff at Shinola, but they have a wall of straps and their leather goods are quite nice. Omega AD not at Somerset. You’ll need to google that. Have fun!

I don't know much about watch shopping in Detroit, but I've heard that the Rugby Grille in Birmingham makes some pretty good chocolate cake . . .

No Omega Boutique in the D anymore. It closed a little over a year ago and it won't be reopening, unfortunately. I think there are a couple of ADs in Southeast Michigan, but you may have to go out to Ann Arbor. In the meantime, Tapper's is very good, and I believe there's a Breitling boutique at Somerset in Troy.

Tapper’s seems like the place. If I can get there I will.

Too bad about the local OB!

Im in Farmington Hills.
Tappers is the main option, they are an AD at some of their stores but will deliver it in any store you want.
If you go to West Bloomfield ask for Eugene and tell him Jeremy from Marvin's sent you. Eugene can help you find anything you want new or preowned.
I hope Omega reopens at Somerset but Im not holding my breath.

It's been 2 years since I've been to the OB in Somerset. I didn't realize they closed. That's a bummer.

Here is me picking up a Sub 41 in December at Tappers (they had the watch in the back adjusting the bracelet).

That's a one-Rolex collection, right there. Nicely done, sir.

You know, I thought it might be. But the only other Sub I've owned is a 5 digit, and it wears a lot differently than the modern maxi case. I prefer the feel of my Explorer I, and I sold the Sub 41 a few months ago.

Don’t own any Rolex anymore, but I have to concur: the 14060/16610 was peak Sub; the newer ones just feel too bulky and inelegant, and the ceramic doesn’t have the character that aluminum does. I was lucky enough to get a 126610 at retail soon after release and thought it would be my mic-drop watch. Ended up trading it in a few months later. Just didn’t feel right. Meanwhile I still regret selling the 16610 I owned a few years back.

That said, the bezel action on the new Subs is crazy smooth. I wish Omega could match that.
