Omega HS8-Poss Unissued....Opinions Please...

I am thinking of buying this Omega HS8 . It seems To be in excellent condition (Poss Unissued). The reason why I believe this is because of the nickle plated brass case, retaining its unpolished factory dull industrial-grade finish.
It also has the MOD Lemrich signed dial. I am thinking of purchasing this...A main reason is that I have never seen one in this condition.

I would be surprised if it hasn’t been re-plated, but hard to tell from the photos provided & viewing on my phone. Scratches & dings plated over would be the most obvious tell.

Should it say Swiss on the dial or is it too early a ref for that?

edit: doing some searches around the forums it looks like they don’t

The HS8 cases are interesting, they are a copper containing alloy of some kind but they aren't brass and I am not sure how the cases are finished or plated.

I think I remember reading about some sort of nickel alloy?

Imo, the mid case hasn't been messed with and is really nice. The markings on the case back look quite shallow for an otherwise pristine looking case back, but it could just be the lighting in the pic. Can I ask why you say "unissued", as it has issue numbers on the back?
I attach a pic of one that I used to have with a very worn version of the case. Value, what ever you feel happy to pay for it.

Hello, I think I meant unissued condition. My reasoning for mentioning this is the casing. When viewed very closely the light oxidation of the copper/brass alloy on the case is correct for the age.It has not been re-covered by another process.
I do see what you mean about the lighting, but I was unaware of the issue numbers and what they may signify.

Not sure from these pictures, that the middle case belongs to this case back. If that is an Alloy based case, the lugs are too short and too thick.

Hi Achim, I think the HS8 did also come in a different alloy mid case than the 6B/159 with the longer, slimmer lugs. I have seen quite a few with this mid case with the stronger, shorter lugs that always seem to be drilled for spring bars. I am 99% sure that they aren't shortened/broken lugs.
Cheers
Mark

This is my HS8. Resold by Bravingtons after the war with exactly the same strap. However, mine has "swiss made" on the dial.

Look carefully at the case. It’s possible it’s a replacement caseback. That happens sometimes on these while bing serviced while in service.
