Hi All new to the forum. Curious what everyone's opinion is on purchasing either a a regular grey side or meteorite?

I keep going back and forth. It appears the meteorite maybe harder to find. I am not sure if that is good or bad economically speaking?

    thoughts are appreciated!

    Welcome to the forums!

I really like both models and can appreciate the appeal of each. Forced to select one, I would probably lean towards the meteorite. That unique dial and sedna combination is really sharp. It depends on if you want a little gold or a lighter dial.

I really like my standard Grey Side with platinum dial - the meteorite with the gold just doesn't feel like the right color combo and it looks too busy as well.

thanks! I have heard that to some it can be busy and hard to read. Which is also a concern.

Welcome to the OF! I’ve never seen a Meteorite dial in person (although the one on the Private Sales Forum has been viewed by me countless times! It really is stunning) I will say that I tried on a GSOTM earlier today and absolutely fell in love with it. The AD also offered to take $2k off the $12k price tag. It felt great on wrist, looked wonderful against a shirt and blazer and I think it would be a watch you could wear daily. The Meteor seems more like a special occasion watch. Just my opinion. Let us know what you decide! Best of luck. - Chris

Why buy one Grey Side of the Meteorite when you can have two of the original?
One for me and one for my son's college graduation in 2 years...

I have the original, and would strongly opt for it over the meteorite (and I love the meteorite). The platinum dial is sublime, classic, and is a great everyday watch. The meteorite is stunning, but I would not want that on my wrist every single day.

My friends meteorite. Lovely piece but I doubt you’d wear it every day unlike your other option.

Grey side - the meteorite looks too messy to me. I had the dark side but never really fell in love with it. However I regret selling it as it is a stunning piece.

I love the idea of the meteorite, but think they make the dial hard to read. But that said, I bought a dark side of the moon all black one and can’t read that dial either!

I think I’d vote regular GSOTM too. I just don’t love the sedna gold - it gives it a weird bling to me for some reason.

That being said, the idea of a meteorite being used in a Moon watch is really compelling...very pharaonic! I saw an Apollo Soyuz on here that has meteorite subdial backgrounds. That one is killer! I’d much rather have it than the Sedna meteorite.

Of course I’m funded for none of the above, but I’ve got opinions galore!

thanks for all the feedback keep It coming. My current daily is a GMT master 2 "batman" and dress watch is a JLC master cal. This watch will probably (lol) be my final watch and will rotate in with the batman...

GSOTM is a classic. The Grey Side Meteorite looks much better live and more discreet than any of the flash photos I have seen on the Internet (I saw one live last year at Toronto Airport Omega Duty Free). I would strongly suggest trying on both watches before making your choice.

I would also suggest taking a look at the Speedy Racings below as an alternative (METAS certified caliber and some versions cheaper), before making a final decision (photos from ABTW)

If the watch is a keeper I suppose purchasing from an OB or AD should be OK, but if you are worried about resale value, grey market or pre-owned should offer you a significant discount (min 30%).

Whatever option you choose I think you will have a great three watch collection.

The dial is not flashy, it’s essentially grey from more than a few feet away. For the wearer however, both the dial and the Sedna bezel do amazing things when the light changes! The Sedna glows warmly at sunset but is understated most of the rest of the time.

My only caution is that there is no bracelet to match the grey ceramic case if you are used to wearing those.

The white racing dial is the show stopper IMO. I love it.

After I thought about it...I would pick the grey just because it wears better as a daily wear. The Soyuz is the only Speedy I'd get with the meteorite, it just looks better IMHO.
