Omega Geneve authenticity

Hi,

I would really appreciate some thoughts on this watch that I have bought for my friends 50th birthday, I'm not sure on authenticity of this watch now it has arrived, and there are a few flags. Seller initially offered original box and packaging and this, now hasn't arrived with the watch. Everything about the case seems to new for a 1970's watch, also I cant seem to pull out the crown to change the time, potentially it could if i pulled it really hard but don't want to break it! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I do not want to give my friend a fake watch. Thanks!

That’s a real dog of a watch unfortunately.

Firstly, the dial is utter fantasy. That likey started life as a standard silver dial, got water damage and has been repainted in black as it’s a popular colour. The standard of the print is nowhere near Omega quality.

The case is very poor. Look at all the corrosion inside the caseback. The water damage that originally destroyed the dial likely ruined the case as wel and to hide it, the case has been polished to within an inch of its life. Obviously the caseback threads can’t be polished so this gives you an idea of the condition it was in before.

Definitely one to return if you can.

It's legit, but in poor condition with a repainted dial.

Your instincts were spot on! Look in the Private Sales thread some nice watches for sale from trusted OF members. You may be able to find something in time.

This Cosmic would make lovely gift and in nice box

And there’s another nice Cosmic FS also.

(No connection to either watch other than I think they are lovely and fair priced).

Good luck
