Dear OF - passing by an online auction, and this caught my eye - was marked as a women's watch, even though it's a 111.047 and a 620 movement, so a men's watch by design origin. It's in 18 k gold - so i was quite surprised that my low ball bid ended up winning - i get it that it's not the most desirable but are they really that low in value? Less then 500 € including buyers premium and shipping - that's close to the gold value alone - What is OF opinion on the value of these ?

I am quite fond of them. Then again I am a lady.

Some would say these are worth scrap plus a bit for the movement which is 35 to 120USD on auction sites. I also learned basic maintenance some 25 years back. Usually the service will cost more than the watch. Even if the watch was recently serviced, it will need servicing again in a few years.

I tended to avoid gold colored watches as gold is not my color. It really comes down to what makes one happy. If you like the watch and wear it, then that it what it is for, and both you and the watch are happy. I like to anthropomorphize watches as that reflects the emotion. And watches are about emotion. Nice ones make you feel good.

Such a watch is not much of an investment watch. As a collectable, it does not fit into the common profiles that are popular here. So reselling or flipping such a watch is probably not a good use for it. All watches will accrue in value, mostly due to supply/demand. These watches were made in the millions, which is why there are so many examples to be had. As they age and are scrapped or become dysfunctional the remaining examples will get more attention.

To me this is an attractive vintage watch, good example, good condition, nice cursive Geneve text, looks all original and 18K. I would wear it proudly and enjoy it!! And not worry about monetary value down the road.

Yeah the gold some is close to the winning bid. Would say somewhere between 10-15k?

I fully agree - that's also why i bid on it - i don't buy watches for a potential resale value but because i like them - but must admit that a good buy newer ruins the day , just had to air my surprise on the apperently low value of these models that - to me - are quite elegant in their simplicity

It's a very nice watch and with the price of gold only goes up because it's limited amount of that metal on Earth I think you made a good investment 😀
