I have one of these with a Cal 1250 movement. My usual repairer(s) didn’t want to service them but recommended a repairer who specialised and I had to submit it for an appraisal. The £300 charge requested was more than I’d paid for the watch so I didn’t go ahead but, having liaised with another OF member, sourced an old fashioned battery (rather than the current non-lithium version) and that did the trick.
I’m also told that the date ring on these is susceptible to breaking, so bear this in mind too.
A lot of unwillingness from watchmakers seems to come down to the (lack of) availability of parts, and the the folks who do look after them want paying properly for the job (£300 doesn't sound crazy to be honest).
It easy to forget, but these were expensive watches when new, and whilst they can be picked up cheaply, paying a skilled watchmaker to bring them back to life is going to cost what it costs.
Very much so - three of the five f300Hz watches I have owned have needed new day/date disks. The original items are plastic, relatively delicate and can become brittle with age. Steve at Electric Watches did have some modern repro steel ones made, but I don't know if he still have stock.
electric-watches is run by Paul Wirdnam isn't it? Is Steve his stage name 😀
ps there was a seller for the metal date wheels in Germany I believe, I have seen them offered on Euro ebay sites.
