Hi guys, I‘m looking to buy this Omega Genève 166041. What are your thoughts on it and does anybody know why the indicators on 6, 7, 8 and 9 o‘clock look so dark? Thanks in advance! 9B141D4B-5C65-4CE9-9F1B-A36827D0B3D2.png 175239B9-81A9-486E-9A2D-B09F63A64495.png

The watch is ok. The indices from 6 to 9 are ok too, they look black for a light effect.
    What is the price?

It’s probably the lighting but pictures of the dial from different angles would help. Looks to be a nice watch but I’d want more/better pictures.

The price is ridiculously low: about 350$

Well that picture gives different lighting perspective. You can see that the darkened markers in original picture were caused by lighting. $350 seems like a good price especially if it was serviced. Crown may be a replacement but not a huge deal.

Also is this watch being sold by a reputable seller? Do some due diligence on the seller!

It's a private seller who sold a bunch of other omegas as well, mostly seamasters which seem to be fine. So I guess I'll go for it since it's not a huge commitment considering the price.

Gold plated watches aren't usually sought after by collectors but this one seems to be in good shape and price is actually good.

I wouldn’t say $350 was ridiculously low. $250-350 is about what it’s worth

As above. It is low but no ridiculously so. Don't forget you might have to spend the same again to get it working right, then you are out of pocket since as above, even when working they have a low ceiling value: they are of limited desirability. That one is covered in crap an may not have been touched in decades.

The 041s are a bit of a poison chalice in that respect, the service costs ruin the economics of ownership. And you are looking at the least desirable case material. @Spruce who is a big fan might like to comment but most of us have been there and done that with the 041s. They are a gateway drug, in that you soon move on to something where the economics works.

Very nice indeed. But would you not rather have a steel one instead of one that is pretending to be something it is not?

Fine, and yours looks very tidy, but you see the point about plated or capped watches do you not?

I’ll agree to disagree. I have many gold capped watches while the De Ville chronograph may be the only plated watch I have, I love them all. You have a lot to learn about vintage watches!

We are all always learning, those of us who think there is nothing more to learn are destined for a nasty surprise but I raise an eyebrow in a Roger Moore fashion at the confidence in your statement. I wonder what you know of my experience? Nothing is what is suspect. Never mind, no doubt the world will keep turning.

ps the market places plated or capped finish variants cheapest, steel next then solid gold top (and white gold or platinum above that). I guess the market better go back to school too...

:rolleyes:Your insistence that someone can’t enjoy something you don’t value astounds me. Your hubris in your opinion that gold capped or gold plated watches can’t be enjoyed because they aren’t steel is ridiculous! Most collectors start right where OP is and that is fine, and yes we are all always learning. I apologize if you feel insulted by my comments but by your own words, you have a lot to learn.
