My wife and I were fortunate enough to be invited by my OB representative, Mr. Jake Ross to a very special opportunity yesterday afternoon....to tour the ORBIS Eye Hospital airplane which is getting some maintenance at Seattle's Museum of Flight for a short time. I'll admit that I knew nothing about the ORBIS plane, line of Omega Orbis watches or the program prior to this invite. It is an incredible program that restores eyesight to countless people around the world (for free!) utilizing absolutely state of the art facilities (all on the plane!) with the collaboration of the most talented opthomologists and support team from all over the world. But most importantly, it's an educational program sharing opthalmological treatment techniques globally. This was not only a rare opportunity to tour the plane, but to learn about the program from the passionate team members who make it all possible. I have to say that everyone from the nurses, pilots, technology specialists to the surgeons are absolutely FIRST CLASS!
Of course, it was an Omega sponsored event and meeting other Omega fans from the area was also fun, but the highlight was learning about this very special program.
Here are some photos from the event: 20180727_172548.jpg 20180727_173342.jpg 20180727_173626.jpg Screenshot_20180728-072338_Gallery.jpg

I now have an even greater respect for my favorite watch brand!

Very cool. A year or two ago this was parked at Moffett Field for about a week, but the "Flying Eye Hospital" bit on the fuselage had yet to be added so I had to Google it. Funny it turned out to be one of Omega's sponsored programs.

Thanks for sharing, what a great group of people helping out others in need.

I must admit I hadn’t heard of this line of watches either. The chrono looks nice IMO. The teddy bear deville not so much.

Sorry for the thread revival and the rather long post but I bought the Speedmaster Orbis a week ago. It is everything I was looking for in a watch that I intend to wear every day. As I often wear a suit it's great that it can be dressed up with a leather strap and dressed down with the bracelet or a Nato strap. The smaller diameter allows it to easily slip under a dress cuff and the 100m water resistance makes it an ideal holiday watch.
Furthermore, being a proper petrolhead this watch unites my love for watches and cars in a unique way as the co-axial escapement was developed by George Daniels who owned one of the most famous Bentleys in the world, Sir Tim Birkin's 4 1/2 Litre Supercharged Single Seater which he raced at Le Mans.
But the one feature which makes this THE watch for me is the fact that I was born severely cross-eyed and at the age of one had to undergo surgery on both eyes, giving me excellent eyesight. You often take access to top-notch IMG_20220618_154526a.jpg IMG_20220625_183231.jpg IMG_20220618_182327.jpg medical (eye) care for granted but Orbis has made me realise how lucky I was. Wearing the watch not only makes me proud to support such a worthwhile cause but it's a constant reminder to count my blessings as well.
