    Hello,

I am looking to buy a vintage Omega Dynamic and could use some advice on cost and pretty much everything. This will be my first Omega watch.

I have been reading through the forums and the PDF linked here with history of the watch. I’m looking for a Dynamic 1 model which I believe is he first late 60s original run. I like the blue bullseye face specifically.

There are several on eBay I’ve been following both domestically and international. It’s hard to distinguish what’s legit from what’s not for me. I am looking for some identifiers like the stamped back case, but I’m just not knowledgeable enough to really make an educated choice. Some private seller and shops are listing some that appear in recently serviced shape for around 850-1100 bucks but it seems high based on what I’ve been reading especially with so many unknowns regarding the service, etc.

I don’t mind spending more for a nicer condition model, but just want to make sure I’m not getting ripped off or overpaying for a fake or junk model.

Looking for any advice or direction those new more educated than me can offer. Or if you know someone trustworthy you can point me towards please let me know. Thank you.

Here are the top ones I’m looking at so far, (just saw part about photos - adding them momentarily)

I’m having trouble syncing them up with the links. The pics are in groups of two to show front and back of watch. The asking price in order of picture is:

    Watch 1: $880
    Watch 2: $1100
Watch 3: Auction currently at $500ish
    Watch 4: $675

    Watch 1:

3 and 4 or 4 and three have dial problems. First two are (imho) are a little overpriced.

Thanks. Any suggestions on what would be more reasonable prices for the first two?

Pay attention to brushing, price, and bracelet length.

Cool pieces that are somewhat common on eBay.

Dynamics are not easy to sell, so don’t hesitate to discuss harshly the price. Personally I would chase a racing dial model and ask here before triggering. And only on a steel bracelet.
    Good luck.

Check out the dials and check the font on the writing carefully, comparing it to the article you refer to. Also many are over polished check that the “tool 107” is visible on the back and that the brushed finish still looks crisp. In my opinion they look good on a strap as well as a bracelet.

    Thank you everyone.

It was also suggested I check out a Seamaster Cosmic too as an option and I’m inclined to agree after comparing them now (thank you STANDY!)

I may not be the right person to express an opinion concerning prices, but I think that 800 bucks for a Dynamic is grossly overpaid.

Be that as it may, do consider the fact that "leather" bracelets for the Dynamic - original or OEM - have become extremely hard to find.
I'd suggest that you focus on the steel ones taking care to check that the links do not have too much wear.

For future reference, blue bullseye dial Dynamics always have a blue seconds hand.

Be patient and you'll see reasonably priced ones in good condition come up.

Watch 1 wouldn't be a bad choice if you can get the seller down to $600-$650.

Watch 2 looks like the dial might be crooked in the case, so I'd discount that one right out since it might mean that someone inexperienced was mucking around in the movement

Watch 3 has the wrong seconds hand for the reference

Watch 4 dial condition is poor for the price

I was messing around with Dynamics a while back...Considering something like a million were made , folk are asking some very high prices just now. I personally wouldn't be looking at more than 350-500 Euro for a top notch one. I'm with you on the first generation looks. The case finish and later dial designs don't do it for me. Though the blue bullseye is nice it is the one of the more prevalent ones. The scarce ones are the original design in red and green or a racing dial. The lume doesn't age well on these watches and they are a bit prone to flaking. Like my colleagues said, pay attention to the brushed case finish and try and get an integrated steel bracelet if you're going to fork out a lot of cash. Last year I paid 225 euros for this one and got it serviced for a further 100. I was compelled to sell my blue bullseye one on because it just had too many dial and lume blemishes. they are very comfortable on the wrist. Good luck! daydatedynamic.jpg

Thank you (and beautiful watch)! It seems to be a similar dial to the Watch #1 above, but with a bracelet and a much, much lower price than they are asking.

Something else I was curious about as a follow-up (well two things actually):

1: Can you comment on how your Dynamic “wears” from a sizing perspective? I have smaller risks and STANDY was kind enough to point out the Dynamic can be a bit chunky, which I may have been overlooking.

2: I’ve noticed several sellers on eBay keep referencing that they have had their Dynamics serviced and keep calling it a “cost of $400-$500” depending on the post. That just jumped out at me now as it seems much higher than your service costs were and your watch looks amazing.

I realize there could be some variables at work, but my first thought is that they were overstating the costs to jack up the price.

Dynamics sit quite low and flush on the wrist..they don't have the raised profile of Speedies.I don't find them chunky or ungainly in the least. They were specifically designed with Ergonomics in mind which is why they became so popular. They do have a bit of the large casing size of 70's watches but then again I'm a bit of a sucker for this design ( you might want to take a look at the similar but less well known Omega Stingray aka Cobra too).. Here's my one after I got my watch guy to rebrush it.
    IMG_3436.jpg
they came in a few dial designs (with or without a diver type Bezel...they are not divers!).
The question of servicing is a difficult one to answer. What I might call a service, Archer (a qualified Omega watch repairer here) would probably laugh at and scold me for my lack of due diligence.
Most collectors end up having one or two local "watch guys". These are the people they bring the watches to on a regular basis and over time the watch guy appreciates the regular business and can tweak his prices and services accordingly. For me , I just like to have my watch stripped, cleaned , re-oiled and put back together with the minimum of fuss and replacement parts. Unless it's an incredibly complex or high end piece most Watchmakers in this part of central Europe would be asking between 130-240 Euros. 500-600 USD is what you might pay to see your precious and beloved 68 Speedy Transitional well cared for. You always have to balance up the value of the watch and the cost of the service..sometimes however your heart takes over. I've currently got a Orator Chronograph in (Landeron 148 movement) which might never recoup the overall money spent on it..Even though it was a cheap deal in its broken state. .
