The design is East Sea Dragon who always wears a crown, in this case the Omega symbol.

wow that's quite a unique dial… anyone has any idea how did this design come about?

Just to throw more confusion into the mix, is this piece from Cartier circa 2000, note the design has been compromised by the removal of crown and is cropped(clouds) to fit dial. 27C40FC1-F21E-4570-96BB-21222F10CF61.jpeg

It would be interesting to see what info Omega Archive would have on this. Have you ordered an extract from Omega?

No, I’ve only just taken possession of the watch, have spent months reading this forum avidly attempting to gain some knowledge about various aspects and it has been invaluable.
I will order an extract and post any further information. I believe this watch was made for the year of the Dragon 1964, we believe that whoever ordered it made was of Chinese heritage. The watch is extremely refined with a guiloche background and obvious enamel, giving it a dimensional appearance, will be treating it with kid gloves and progressing slowly.

The Omega logo is a later version, wasn't used before until the seventies, or there about. The seconds hand is missing.

My guess would be that it is a much later, locally produced replacement dial, especially since special order enamel dialed Omegas are usually in precious metals, not stainless steel.

I am naturally rooting for the watch to be the real deal, but not very hopeful :)

Thanks for the information, it’s entirely possible that it’s a franken, especially considering the Cartier example, if it is, I’m impressed that someone would go to so much trouble and effort, the eBay pictures simply don’t show how beautiful the watch is, it glows from across the room.

It doesn't add up to me.

Badly corroded ss case and hands, US market movement and as previously noted Omega logo from a later period (f300). Hands also seem inappropriate, slim stick hands are commonly seen on these two handed dress watches, these fight with the elegance of the dial.

BTW, cal 620 is a two handed movement.

If it's from the 70s then there is a high chance of the dial being made in 1976, since Chinese zodiac signs repeats every 12 years

Serial number is in the 18 millions, so the movement is 1961 or so.

Franken, if you’ll pardon the expression.

The East Sea Dragon King rules the ocean between China & Japan, the Omega text was placed as breath from the dragons mouth, the design elements of this franken have been given a great deal of thought, if it’s a hobbyist working from home, they get a well done from me.

Problem is the dragon’s crown design element was current in 1970-75 and not before. Get the extract but I am no longer particularly optimistic Bienne had a lot to do with the dial.

The Dragon year 1976 is “fire dragon”, the dragon depiction usually breathes fire, the year 2000 is golden dragon and drumroll 2012 is water dragon.

I think you may misunderstand me. My comment related to the red Omega logo being current to 1970/75 f300 usage. I have no knowledge of Chinese astrological matters. I think you have a very nice redialed non original dial. But an extract will tell you all. It is the third time I have mentioned it!
