    Hi All,

My friend inherited this Omega from his Father's estate. There is quite a bit of patina on the dial. The underlying question is should he have it restored (replacing the dial and hands) or just cleaned and preserving the existing state of things (with just a bit of cleanup). I'm a fan of not touching anything or at least minimal invasion. He would like a nice watch to wear out on occasion, but does not want to do anything to take away any long term value. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Do nothing to the case, dial and hands. "Restoring" any of these parts will have a negative impact on value.

Have the movement serviced by an independent watchmaker who is familiar with vintage Omega watches.

Post your location and I'm sure forum members can offer suggestions on who to use, or not.

Sound advice Sir. To coin an expression “don’t touch that dial” or hands, or case

My opinion was not to touch anything other than cleaning and service...no restoration (i.e., replacement of dial or hands...and limit polishing of case). Thanks for the advice! The watch and owner are in the Raleigh, NC area. A local watchsmith is in the area...but suggestions are welcome!

No replacement dial or parts in possession of the owner. Do not believe the watch has ever been serviced...but could be wrong in that aspect.

    Thanks, everyone!

God I love the look of this watch. How often do these pop up for sale?

Nice one, just a regular movement service and clean up, no restoring!

Also, get rid of these spring loaded endlinks! They will eat into the lugs over time! Get a nice vintage isnpired leather or suede strap, then he'll have a very nice wearable vintage piece on his hands.

    Cheers,

    Max
