I have inherited a watch and do not know what year it is or its value? Can you help me give a ballpark idea of the year of construction I have attached photo's, it is not working at this time. thanks
Nice watch. Looks like a case reference - 2852 with cal. 505 judging by the case shape..circa 1950's. Do you have any caseback shots? Here's a similar dial (different case) but in gold cap that I've just sold:
Mid to late 50's with a caliber 50x. These sell anywhere from $600 to $1150 depending on condition. Can't tell from that photo, but it looks in decent shape so I'd say somewhere in the $800 - $950 range if listed on open auction and ran to conclusion on eBay.
Thank you all for the help in identification, I have not taken the back off as it is very difficult to open without damaging the item. I am thinking of having it fixed and refurbished as the crystal needs polishing etc. any idea who in the U.S.A. are good to contact for repair? Or I may just sell it as is.
If your goal is to sell it, better to sell as is since you are unlikely to get much value added with the repair job. The dial on your watch looks like it has some patina and isn't as clear as Dablitzer's so that will reduce the value.
Movement in average condition. Looks like the oscillating weight has been scraping the inner caseback. Is the outer caseback in nice shape?
If all 8 stars are there that's not a bad looking caseback. I think that's a $600-800 watch - the variability depending on the dial condition. While it is a piepan dial, it is not the more desirable arrowhead piepan dial.
