Hello, my name is Ricardo from Portugal, I have been collecting Omegas for around 15 years, have 1 omega constellation similar to this photos, that has been professionally restored in 2002, for how much this watches go right now?
Those are both my watches - one previously from Mike (above) and the other from eBay. The price can differ greatly, and these don't come around very often. Pics would be good.
I will take pictures this weekend, I am away from home right now, the watch was restored by this guy in Girona Spain, Günter Dähndel MBHI Restoration, in 2002, the letters in the dial have some fade so I presume it is the original dial, the back is screwed or pop up I have never opened it. The watch is beautifull but I never use it, is too small for my wrists I normally use Breitlings (sorry I know this is an Omega forum) but also have 2 speedmasters at home an automatic and a day date with several colours in the hands and dial. In 2002 I bought it for 500 euros and it seemed a good deal. My father also collects wristwatches and pocket watches, also has some Omegas including all gold ones, which are more rare, at least here in Portugal.
Ok here go the pics I took them with the tablet, movement is an 562, this was a restoration so tell all bad and good, if you need more pics of any specific angle tell me.
First I noticed was the diferent dial as the first pics, mine isn't all waffle dial, just in the center. Bad restored or just a different dial?
Hmmm...In my humble opinion it looks rather overpolished. Also, can't really make out the movement shades, looks a little tarnished, but could just be the pictures. Hard to say about this because collectors want originality, and untouched examples. The caseback medallion is also polished, some of the stars are missing. Also the caseback number 2943, need to check that because I've never seen or heard of that reference with that dial. I would however dibs it just for the dial, if the price was right! as I think it's original and quite uncommon. Edit: the caseback says it should be for a Constellation calendar with Cal 504. So it is incorrect replacement. I think it's a franken watch, because the hands are pink gold and the dial furniture is yellow gold. So the movement, case and caseback don't belong to that dial
That 562 has no business being there as mentioned above, its a franken and worth the sum of its parts only.
So a bad restoration? I wanted to know more about the watch, so posted where for the experts give more hints, I will keep it, I am not going to sell a franken watch, I bought it 12 years ago without knowing a lot about it just liked the watch, just wanted to know if it was a good value or have been tricked by the restauration guy.
Which movement and caseback should have? If I had to put it as original condition? I can contact the omega dealer here in portugal and ask him if he can source the correct parts
Searching the web this watch should have a 561, 562 is a movement for the seamaster automatic correct?
This is a really bad franken. The movement is not a Chronometer and does not belong in any constellation. Even the dial is problematic, as we don't know which reference it came from, but it did not come with this Calendar case. Ad the polishing and wear, not much to see here, very sad. Someone , likely the restorer, really screwed this on up. Basically None of these parts goes with any of the others, with the exception that maybe the back and case started together.
