This would be my first vintage purchase. Is it polished and original? He's wanting $2000.

Polished indeed, lugs aren’t sharp anymore. The dial damage would worry me a bit more - either way, 2000$ should buy you a very, very nice example of a 167.005/14900 pie pan. This one isn’t worth the asking price imo.

Be wary of this seller. I’ve had interactions with him in the past.

Yes and yes.

At $2000 I would expect a sharper case and a dial with less patina. The case has seen some polishing and lacks the sharp faceted edges this particular model is known for. The dial condition is acceptable but I think you can do much better.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I thought it looked polished as well, but obviously I'm new to the whole vintage thing. I'm in the market for sure though and will have to keep a lookout.

Although these photos don’t seem to be Chrono24 photos, the seller sells on Chrono24 and, as it’s been said previously on OF, Chrono24 prices are often, but not always higher than watches on offer elsewhere - including eBay.

My view is that you’ll always be able to get a watch like this, at this sort of price, at anytime so - it’s worth looking around first.

I think you’re entirely right to look for a stainless steel model, which is wearable dressed up or down.
