Hey guys, Fairly new here, read about posting vintage posts, so here goes. I'm currently considering purchasing this Omega Constellation Pie Pan 551, he has only these pictures. He will provide more pictures if a deal for the price is met. He is asking $675 for the watch only. I know there's not much to see, however this is the only pictures available. Do you guys think I should go further with the deal? Thanks for your inputs.
No movement pictures? Nah, I wouldn't proceed, unless he's selling it for a compelling price that I'd take a risk on. Many more opportunities for buying vintage pie-pan Connies in the future, and on this forum.
Price is pretty good even with the dial in that condition. As long as it had a clean 551 in it I would go for it.
Hahaha, all jokes aside, not too sure if I want to go ahead with this deal. Seems a bit weird that he doesn't want to show the movement pictures.
Offer him $675 for the watch and present him with an $675 invoice to dispose of the purple hazardous waste for him. God knows what he was thinking when he put that monstrosity on it.
hahaha, what's the going price for these constellation, because I seem to find posts of it going for $1000-$2000, and I'm not sure if $675 is cheap or is it the market price?
That is an excellent price. Just make sure you get a return option in writing in case the insides aren't right. I know of an similar example that changed hands on this forum for almost double that price. Good luck with the purchase. gatorcpa
Thanks guys, I'm thinking of dealing for the watch, but before I do, I worry a bit regarding the star on the dial of the constellation. Isn't it suppose to be in the gold color? Other than that I think the hands, crown and everything looks good. Only thing left is the movement. So other than the star, is there anything else I should look into more?
The star is correct to be in the same metal as the other parts of the dial like logo and hour markers. The dial and hands are a bit oxidized, but the case looks to be in good shape. Like others have said, the unknown movement's condition is the only concern here, but if that price includes the metal bracelet then it's surely a good deal there. Plenty of people here would jump on it.
Make sure that the star is silver. I really thought it was a bad reflection. If it is not, than maybe you should pass. gatorcpa
I was informed by the seller that the star is half blue, he said it might be because it got oxidized or something? Would this be a deal breaker?
Not sure. Could just be tarnish, could be a poor replacement dial. Any of the other markers have similar discoloration? gatorcpa
I think the Omega logo and the 6h marker also have tarnished spots. That wouldn't break the deal, but the bracelet included or not would for me.
The deal is only for the watch, no strap. I guess its not cheap, but at a fair price now. He sent me another pic for the dial. So a bit of blue on the logo and star, $675 for the watch only, no strap, the question is, should I pull the trigger?
I think some members here would take the deal. I would not, just because I've already got several in better condition. If this will be your first pie-pan, it wouldn't be a bad deal pending the movement. Or if you're patient, a better watch or a better deal will come along.
