Hi guys, A very fortuitous pick up that I would like to share. I have been lazy to take nice pictures so I figure if I post this one it will prompt me to take more. I don't know too much about it as yet but was really lucky to get it. Waiting at a jeweller while having my wife's ring checked and cleaned and asked if they had vintage watches. The guy said yes and pulled out a tray of watches from the safe. I zoomed in on the Connie which was brought in by an elderly gent to be serviced and sold, made an offer and got a call 3 days later that he wants to sell. It looks minty and it is an original Omega strap (amazing look and feel) and buckle. My feeling is that it is original to the watch. I also have a feeling that it is a one owner watch. Hopefully I can stop having these feelings and confirm this in the near future. There is a bit of gunk on the watch so haven't put much effort in trying to get the back open. The stars on the back are perfect but I think the watch was very lightly polished at some point in it's life or perhaps it has just worn this way.
If it hadn't been missing the 'Officially certified' I would have said a 168.005 due to the sharpness of the pie pan edge But the missing text might straddle the reference number change I guess as it went AWOL for a couple of years around that time IIRC
And some more pictures. The dial looks almost perfect under the crystal but like I said, it's gunky...
The gunk has made opening it a bit difficult... I will also have to wait a while to get it seen to and serviced as I'm in the process of moving. For now then it is a 14XXX cal 561
Thank you for the input. Aside from the crown then everything else seems legit. Any red flags raised?
None that I can see. Hands and indices are correct for the ref. and everything looks good. The movement might hold some horrors, though
I'm a glass half full kind of guy, so considering the dial is in such nice condition and going to choose to believe the movement is pristine Full disclosure though, I tried setting the time and it was fairly stiff going. If nothing else it needs a full service.
Looks nice. With exception of the crown (which you can replace in any case if you want) everything looks fine. Great find.
Finally got this to the watchmaker. Mrs VanDamme took a quick pic for me. As @Peemacgee said first up it is in fact a 14902. Pictures below: It's going to clean up nicely!
