Been awhile since I've been on OF because of life but thought I'd share with the community something that was a nice surprise. In the process of the family helping grandaunt renovate her place, many hours were spent sorting through decades of hoarded items from clothes, kitchenware, bags, hair clips, scissor (>20 of the same kind).

This lovely watch appeared out of the drawer in the home which turns out belonged to my late granduncle who passed in 2019. We even managed to find the original Omega certificate and receipt dating the purchase to 22 February 1958! Looks like my granduncle paid a grand total of 260 Malayan dollars (this was before Singapore became independent in 1965) which Google tells me was valued at roughly USD$85 at the time. He would have been 25y.o!

It came on a flat link Omega bracelet with no.4 end links. Managed to pry off the solidified springbars and did what I could to scrape off the wrist cheese and gave the crystal a quick polish with polywatch. Have shared this excitement with @NT931 who got to see it in the flesh.

Finally found some time to take some snaps to enjoy what looks like an immaculately clean and original waffle dial and sharp case (daresay unpolished?). Crystal is also original with the omega logo though I forgot to take a photo of this. I tried to pry open the caseback to check out the movement and reference but its sealed shut and so shall leave it to the watchmaker for a service - lest I cause some regrettable damage. I suspect it is a reference CK2852 but I am no expert on Omega's.

Sharing photos of this pretty cool family drawer find below. Enjoy!

Wow, what an incredible family find for someone who is already an Omega collector.

Really amazing and I can only imagine your happiness 😊

Fantastic looking watch too with the icing on the cake being the 7077 bracelet!

Wow, a lovely find.

I'll have to remember if I ever need a "redial reference" that this is the exemplar.

I’m sure you had to pinch yourself to really believe what you were seeing. Such perfection in a drawer find is rare.

Yes indeed, we really see less and less draw finds, it looks like original 1950's watch supply has been as good as exhausted . In my location almost completely dried up. Maybe one interesting discovery watch every 24 months now on the local online marketplaces. In years gone by (8 -10 years ago ) it was one every few weeks...sometimes even 2 in a week!

I was rather gobsmacked indeed.

To complete the story, my mum was the one clearing the place initially and sent me the following photo over WhatsApp.

My following reply was, "Don't throw it away!"

What a lovely thing - especially with the original papers. And a lovely thing to remember your granduncle by.
