Omega Constellation Back Case

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some expert knowledge that I hope you can help me with.

I bought this Omega Constellation cal 564 from a serious auction house where I live. The watch was sold without the back case.

The problem I have is that i can't track the back case type. It looks like it is a snap on model but I can't find any similar Pie-Pans with snap on when i search the net.

It is a 1967 model in 18 ct gold but it is hard to find the correct reference when the back case is missing.

Please help me?

We really need more detailed pictures that are in focus.

From a great distance, this looks like a Ref. BA168.(0)005. If it not a screwback case that could be an issue as it could be fake.

However, the lugs look to be so heavily polished as to be unrecognizable. I cannot tell if there are Swiss gold hallmarks behind the lugs either.

Finding a spare 18K gold caseback for this reference is going to be a real challenge. I’m sure that most that were being held for parts have been or soon will be melted with gold at $4K per ounce.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks gatorcpa! The aim for the photos was to show the measurements for the back plate.

The case seems to match the 2852 reference but the Cal 564 with a serial number in the 25-series leaves me a bit puzzled. The gold stamp is on the side of one of the lugs but unreadable.

What I can see the seconds hand is not correct and the crown is replaced. It has an Omega logo in the glass but I think is a replacement bcs it has not flat feet Omega symbol.

Definitely not a 2852. Your watch has heavily polished dog-leg lugs. I suggest going to the Constellation collector's site and researching dog-leg references. But as mentioned above, I fear it is a fool's errand overall, and not really worth the effort because of the poor condition of the midcase.

You might get lucky if you need the back case it’s a 168.005. Please see this:

I’m not the seller nor do I have any benefit if you purchase it. I just noticed it on eBay. I do not know whether it is genuine, so if you’re interested it, make sure that you do your homework.

What you need is a 18k solid gold case back that has brickwork observatory and stamped 168.005/6.
The middle case looks pinkish to me so you should have it in your hands to compare before buying.
(you also can order one made for you by masters in Vietnam but it is not Omega original)

Something about the mid-case doesn’t sit right with me.

1. The lugs look very short.

2. The hallmark is in an odd place.

I would have the case tested for gold content. Even if it tests out, I’m concerned that it may be a non-Swiss made case for national production or an after market “Omega-like” case. If so, I doubt that any Ref. 168.005 Omega made case back will fit properly, whether gold or steel.

I hope I’m wrong.

The shape of the case is exactly what we see from those counterfeits. I am extremely sceptical and would bet it’s not actually gold. Completely off from the proportions of regular doglegs, that’s not something you achieve with extensive polishing.

Thanks, you all got me convinced it is a fake. I have reclaimed the purchase and will get my money back.

I think it was one of those local gold cases, but you did the logical thing if you can move on

Yes, I will get my money back.
I don't think it was a gold case as someone wrote before. I weighed the watch and compared to my gold on steel Pie-pan and they both weighed 26 gr without back case.

Yeah that's peculiar, even if it was 9k gold I think there should've been a 3-4g difference in weight
