Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what´s the crown material made of for a Omega Constellation 2852-2853 rose gold? Is it gold or stainess steel painted like rose gold?

Thanks,
SF

I was under the impression they're gold filled or gold capped typically, definitely not plated.

They were a solid gold cap over base-metal and stainless steel.

So if the watchmaker want to change the old crown for a new official one, they should be the same?

Is it common to change crowns in a maintenance procedure (the watchmaker budget said that)? Im a bit reluctant to that.

Thanks

New crowns are often plated...PVD coated more accurately...

It is the common practise if any sort of water/moisture resistance is wanted. Usually, with a vintage-sympathetic watchmaker you can opt out on it at your own risk.

My watchmaker is proficient at changing rubber gaskets in the crowns, so he usually offers that if it is possible on the watch in question. A win-win as far as I am concerned 😀

EDIT: Usually the crown the watchmaker will use is the available substitute. When we are talking vintage watches, it is fairly rare for that to be an exact match...
