I wanted to share my experience so far with the Omega Boutique's Complete Service at 711 5th Avenue in NYC. I have done a complete service in 2016 as shown in the pictures and the watch started to act up and not keeping time (-7 seconds) after 2 years. In 2018, July I brought it into Omega Boutique at 5th Avenue. They did a complete service again for free and expedited. Do you think the parts they changed in 2016 and 2018 is warranted? (See pictures). It looks like they changed more than they should in 2018. (Reference pictures) For the $710 service fee they charged me for this.... I am completely 100% satisfied. At first service it was 2 years warranty but now 2nd service since they re-did the work again for free it's another 2 years of warranty till 2020! Highly recommended!
I'm not entirely sure what your concern is. As far as I can see they have done exactly what a competent company would do, in fact if they have done it for free and it's been expedited, they have gone above and beyond. As for what should/shouldn't be changed, I'm no watchmaker, but unless you are somehow determined to keep the watch with original parts, I don't see why this should be a worry. *edit* I see you have added some extra information. What you seem to have here is a further service/intervention done during the warranty period of the original service so the zero cost is to be expected. Glad you're satisfied with the level of service
Omega performs competent repair service with the caveat that they view their mandate as being to return a watch to its owner in as nearly new condition as possible. That can have a disastrous effect on the collectible value of a vintage watch. The best examples I can think of are Omega’s replacing tritium dials with superluminova service dials and overpolishing cases.
I am about to send a gold plated TC1 in to omega. Overall, cosmetically it is in reasonable shape, but some noticeable wear of the gold plating in some places such as the clasp. Does anyone know if Omega replate the watch or will they just fix the movement. I dont care either way, I just want my watch working. I am asking out of curiosity more than anything else.
To my knowledge, Omega does not do re-plating of cases. Most of the time Omega didn’t make the case in the first place. They may have a contractor who can do the plating work and they will quote that separately. Same is true for redials. For example, if the case or dial has rust which can spread to the freshly serviced movement, Omega may insist you pay for the extra work or they will not accept the job. This is because they warranty all parts and labor, even if it was performed outside under Omega’s direction. gatorcpa
I think redials are under the restoration service. For regular services, dials are more likely to be replaced than refinished.
If Omega can not repair an old watch for some reason, how do they deal with it? Do they just send it back and say sorry can t help? I am curious incase they can t fix my LED watch. I know non omega modules are available, would they use one of these?
